Northern Lights

Hi there guys,
Has anyone been to the Artic to witness the northern lights.

The wife and I are planning a holiday, but for Christmas 2017 to visit the Artic as well as Santas Village.
The Santa's Village is more for my daughter and the Northern Lights is more for me.
I don't like the cold weather but for this one I would make an exception. Hoping someone here has done a trip like this and could give me some pointers

Bucket list item No.1....Im jealous....

If I am not mistaken, you dont have to go to the artic for the northern lights - alaska and canada are also fortunate enough to enjoy them lights.

Either way - Enjoy the heck out of it!!! One Christmas present to look forward to.

The problem is, they are a bit like weather, hard to predict. We were in Northern Canada and didnt see them in the two weeks we were there but my family in law has sent us some truly mesmerising pictures of the northern lights.

We did most of the things on your list when we were there (excluding the Reindeer thing) and it was amazing. Amazingly cold (-45 Degrees C!) but amazing nonetheless. We did a hike through a forest that included a Whisky stop in an ice hut. Amazing how warm those I huts are.

We wanted to do the driving of the Ice Roads North follwed by a plane trip to the arctic to go polar bear watching a couple of years ago but ended up buying a big house and had to put the holiday on the back burner. Still on the bucket list.

Average temperatures for December is -13deg

Apparently they have lots of cold weather clothing that they offer you for the duration of your stay
