Non- RFT's

Hi all,

I know this topic has been discussed a lot of times and ive been through a few threads, my apologies if this has been discussed before,

I'm in the market for new tires and want to make the swap from RFT to Non-RFT.
Ive have been advised by a prominent tire fitment center that its not wise to change to Non-RFT.
Apparently I will get about 20k on non-rfts apposed to 40k on rfts. ..any truth to this?

With all things considered what is the recommended tire brand that is priced reasonably to go for - E92 335i stock - out of mplan(but driven with passion)

Good Thread

i was advised by my Service Advisor not to put non run flats as it damages the suspension due to the car suspension being specifically designed for run flat tyres but people differ so its upto you in the end put i just think be better safe then sorry i changed my tyres last week and replace it with runflats due to what i have heard and told.

Hope that helps

I hear u mhuz,

I doubt it will cause significant damaged to the suspension, probably will change the ride quality. I would think the service advisor will advise you on rfts due to Mplan warranty.

Im going up a size to 19's - and from my research non-rfts are the way to go, if out of Mplan...just concerned that i would need to change tires in a year if non-rfts get worn by 20k

I went from 19 rft to 19 non rft on my e92 335. Ride quality improved massively. Doesn't 'skip' over bumps anymore and just more comfortable. Damaging suspension sounds like MP stupid stories. Rft might last longer due to a harder compound, but it's mainly the side wall that stronger. So maybe a bit less mileage on non rft, but not 50% less. The rear negative camber on beemers kills tyres.

If anything nonrfts are better for your suspension as they take some of the impact.

agreed

softer sidewalls, equals softer ride quality

on the issue of tyres, buy cheaper harder compound, then the tyres will last longer, and because they are harder, the grip (or lack) will make for exciting sideways actions

and then because they were cheap, you can replace them twice, for the same price of a good quality brand, but at least you werent concerned about having some "fun" on the cheaper brand

You're driving a 335i and you want to put cheap tyres on... no no no.

There is a place in ct Karismatic motors or something selling sets of good year eagle f1 asymmetric 2s for R10k a set. They advertise on Gumtree. That's for 265.30.19 and 235.35.19 .

And that's a damn good price. Go price them elsewhere and you will see what I'm talking about.

also agree there is definitely not a 50% difference in wear rate. I have non rft on my 330d now and they are wearing at the same rate as the RFTs did.

I agree, I wouldnt risk cheapies and will look into the Good years, unfortunately im in JHB..
Ive shopped around and got some silly prices on Non-rtfs that were a few R100 difference in price to Rfts, So it seems changing from Rfts is not a better cost option but more a preference.

I was hoping someone who has been down this road will shed some advice on a tire brand they have opted for of good quality but doesn't break the bank.

I'm running Nexen SU4 on my 335i (modded) and man are those tyres brilliant.

Absolutely love them. They grip well in the wet. I feel confident when driving on very wet roads.

Ride quality is brilliant, with very, very low road noise.

I will be adding a set to my wife's 323i and adding another to my 335i when ineed.

Then you are comparing complete different level of tyres against each other. Non rfts are significantly cheaper.

I had my tyres couriered for R600.

Normally those tyres are 4500 to 5500 for the rear EACH.

Good Years and Falkens are in the R10k-R12k region. 235/265 set up on aftermarket rims. My OEM rims were 225/255.
Minty's has a huge selection and prices are good.

even if you dont order from them, going to Errols tyres website, will give you a good indication of what you should expect to pay for any set of tyres, I find they are within R100 of what other shops are able to offer.

If you can get it for a lot cheaper than on Errols tyre page, then you are getting a good deal
