Non BMW - 1600 VW Beetle 1970 restoration

Hi Guys

I really don't know how i got myself into this mess.. I have always vowed not to restore, but to simply buy readymade classic one day!

Long story short a close friend of mine wanted a loan, and in return offered to either pay it in a months time, alternatively, i could take over the project and transfer ownership instead!! The rest is as they say is history..

I am now a year into it, many Rands having been spent and yet it is still some way to what i want it to be..

This is the look before the work started..


Then stripping and paintwork underway...




Then it was time for mechanical work to resume.. Its amazing how the costs can escalate so rapidly, especially if you not DIY like me!!

I am glad i undertook this project, valuable lessons learned... I understand when they say you'll never recover the costs of restoration by selling!!

Nice work when I couldnt find work, I decided to restore a beetle and sell it to make money. How wrong I was! But valuable lessons learnt, most importantly was never to restore a beetle again lol, especially if it has any rust. These are just so hard to paint
