Nissan R33 GTR | 450Kw | Scunick's Build!
This is a project I was extremely keen to handle with Nick (Scunick) specifically because of the car. The Nissan GTR has always captured my attention, though I never quite understood the reason or the following this car has I hoped to learn more about this machine throughout our build.
Nick had just received the car back from a magnificent engine build by Wessel, with the RB26 motor now pushing "around" 450Kw and with 1 Bar Boost I didnt expect something practical or easy to drive.
We collected both his GTR and his E46 M3 (M3 was coming in for a spot repair) early in Paarl ready for the drive back.
This was a very intimidating prospect for me, originally declining the offer to drive the car. Not only is this the fastest and most powerful vehicle I have ever driven, but its also the most unpredictable.
Nonetheless, a sleepness night passed and we collected the two cars:
The first to be tackled was the Carbon Wrapped Interior, a great idea at the time but not very long-lasting and the finish was ruining the look of the car.
Jeanre and I began stripping the interior:
Then began the laborious task of stripping the vinyl and the glue, it took two guys an entire day to get this right!
In the meantime the mirrors were sprayed gloss black and refitted to the car before being flatted and polished to a rich high gloss:
Then, with the interior trim finally complete we refitted and stood back to admire the amazing transformation to the interior!
And on this note we called it a day!
Part Two coming up!
Part Two!
The following morning we...(went)...ahead with the next phase of the exterior, respraying the roof gloss black to match the mirrors.
With the vinyl removed we found a rather nasty dent on the roof. Not keen to remove the headliner to pop it the team filled it with Flexi filler followed by a spray on filler to ensure it was unnoticeable.
Then came the gloss black! Which despite being Auto Baked for over an hour still had the team on edge baking it for a further hour outside (They have limited space):
Then Shawal, the spray-painter who did the job began wet-sanding before polishing:
Despite it now being past 7 in the evening the team continued working, often re-checking and re-doing the polishing to make sure the work was 100% spot on.
But of course, with the dark comes photo opportunities!
With the job completed we returned the car to Nick, little we know what weather awaited the GTR and Cape Town only days later.
Part Three coming up!
