We have decided to post all the cars we work on in one area.

This will insure that there is a permanent record of work undertaken and owners can refer potential buyers to this page if they ever wish to have work done verified.

As a matter of course we take detailed pics of the car and have a record of kilometers covered as at the repair date.

To start we will be posting work done on Nishant's e36 4door M3.

M3 came in for Rattle kit and Vanos seals.

On the e36 it is a tedious and exceptionally complicated undertaking as the Vanos unit must have been designed by a Mechanical engineer doing his doctorate and wanting to impress.

There was a size able leak from the exhaust solenoids as can be seen in the above pic

Ready to go

As a side note Gizmo has worked on this car and everything he has touched he has done so correctly.
Not one thing was out of place and no shortcuts on any of the work he did.

Least the Rolls Royce vanos doesn't grenade itself from time to time
Can anyone elaborate on the 'BMW Rolls Royce GMBH' tag on the vanos? [/align]

There were 2 different manufacturers for the VANOS units one being SACHS and the other Rolls Royce.

Other than that they both rattle and have useless seals.

Due to the different solenoid design between the S54 and S50 solenoids on the S50 are prone to leaking and a concomitant drop in engine smoothness and torque delivery.
You will notice in the pics that the exhaust side of the Vanos has a good sized oil stain also look at the exhaust solenoids and you will notice that the lower solenoid which is closest to the black wire sheath is stained all over as opposed to its twin which is not. This really means that the exhaust cam was only operating at partial efficiency.
