That mileage on a GS should be an easy ride.

My bike sees the dirt now and again.

I even went MX biking with it once :biglol:

Jap, but I am more concerned with the tough technical riding combined with the boring roads home.

I did an ironbut last year on my previous GS. It was awesome! I really enjoyed it even though I fell my arse off. Iron but is 1600km in 24hrs. But we did it with a twist...we did it on gravel. Tar will have me falling asleep in no time.

I want to do it again, the 2500km in 36hrs version which will be a first in South Africa, but no one wants to join me. (wink wink nudge nudge...)

There is a guy doing tar iron butts with a 800 tiger from Jhb (or Pta). If you are interested, check out the IBA south african group on facebook. Its a great experience, even on tar and a nice supportive group.

Very courteous of you to thank people who give you space, have still not seen one biker in SA do this when I move over for them. You must be the only exception to the rule.

But it seems like they left the indicators off your bike........... I never saw you use them once.

I dont expect bikes to use indicators in traffic like that. They are moving so much faster than any traffic around them that by the time you've seen the first blink they've passed you already anyways. Its only when bikes make use of the full lane like a car, then its nice if they show when they want to overtake and turn etc.

He did change lanes before all the traffic, and turn left onto the slip way, merge into motorway traffic, etc. At this stage indicators should have been used.

Riding between cars, agree, pointless to use indicators.

I used to only have a motorbike for many years (Yamaha XS 1.1G), and it was my everything (before ever owning a car)
but I also have the scars to prove it
maybe now I am scared.
I still have My Goldwing GL1100, but it is more in the garage, only emerges on sunday afternoons for a slow drive around the suburbs

following the twitter feeds of the ER paramedics and PigSpotter etc, I am horrified at the amount of bikers badly or fataly injured daily

It looks a little scary, but as you can see most guys ride in that sort of style.
Even the guy on the GS was cutting thro the traffic.
I think he may have even used the pavement :rollsmile:.

We have been discussing that dog vid a lot today.
My current bike have some dog scarring...

Neither of those guys had to fall (first guy on sportbike debatable). When you are about to hit an animal like in that situation try to accelerate and not brake. Plus move your weight back. There is many instances where (okay big heavy bike I know...) the GSA's have hit dogs and sheep and the rider did not go down. It is possible.

Second guy I guess did not have ABS. He over reacted and caused his own fall, made worse with no ABS. With his motard he could literally have driven over the guy or bike in front (Yap, I have a friend which have done that).

My 2cents. Dont know what the others think?
