I would always go with an older model with lesser mileage. I bought a 9 year old 330i with 112000km on it. For R20k more I could have got an E90, but one with around 150000-200000km and was also limited to the 320i and 323i.
I still feel my E46 330i @ 10 years now with 130000km was excellent value for money

All depends, my dad does very little mileage. He got a 2011 f10 523i that had 78k kms on it. Got it last year, so only 22k kms left till motorplan expires, but he will run out of time on the motorplan before the 22k kms is up. So for him he rather buys a newer car with higher mileage. He got it for a good price, and insurance value is more than he paid.

So it all depends

For me, in my sisuation, i would buy a older car with higher mileage as its all i can afford, eg my 2000 e46 318i with 177k kms on it
