hi guys, new to the crew ex opc driver
recently bought a convertable 125i, car is beautiful
but only the consumption of fuel is shocking.:blueCry:
firstly when topping the tank up, the fuel leaks from the rear right, im sure this is not normal. secondly, when driving the car stalls, then loses rev and switches off a few times, but drives normal and does not leak when not filling up tank.
so on a full tank i only get 320kms, im sure others are getting more.
is there something that you guys clarify, or shed some light.

Hi Bud, welcome to the forum and congrats on the ride. I don't think I have any expertise to help you, one of the more experienced guys could probably help. You shouldn't be leaking fuel in any event and if you are driving your car easy then you should be getting more than 320km per tank. If you hammer it then it is very possible to get even less than 320km per tank.

Mostly freeway driving I just did 8.9l/100km at 128kph (GPS speed) while on the N17 and maybe 10 to 15km town driving. I drive a 135i but the engine size makes us comparable. I hope someone can point you in the right direction. Good luck bud.

Could be a lot of things,

Faulty Coil Pack for example.

Best is to have it scanned for codes and take it from there.

I had the leaking problem on my E46. Your fuel pump is sitting at the right hand side under the rear seat, are you not smelling fuel.

What you need to do, is remove the rear bottom seat, then look behind the driver seat (right hand side), moving the black sheet away you will see your pump, there is a rubber seal that prevents fuel from leaking. This rubber went on mine and it was leaking fuel when filling it up. It is also leaking fuel while driving around, could be contributing to your fuel consumption. I went to the scarp yard for a replacement and it worked till I sold the car 3 years later.

The suddenly shutting down of the motor and revs could be your fuel pump on its way out, had that exact same problem prior to the leaking seal. We caused the leaking seal after we replaced the fuel pump as we put some lubrication on the seal to get the pump fitted back in, it goes in tight ...... yes guys I know :roflol:
