Howzit guys,

I finally bought myself my first BMW (now ican join the club) she's a 318i 2004 model with 170 000km. I purchased the vehicle for R75 k (which I feel was pricey and was told that too) but nevertheless my wife really loved the car.

I believe it had the N42 engine and i was told it is a problematic engine. I just wanted to know if these cars are any good? From what i saw it looked really sexy, neat interior, neat engine, body is immaculate and service history is upto date. Before i purchased the vehicle, the gentleman had the armbushes replaced as well as the passenger window mechanism.

Is there anything that i should be wary of and is the mileage high for the year model?

any assistance or input will be much appreciated guys..thanks!!

Welcome to the forum

If your N42 is running well leave it alone, dont jinx it with any fiddling :fencelook:

Things to look out for also is the cooling system, radiator/water hoses, for cracks or leaks, try and find out if the expansion tank has been replaced yet.

other than that the N42/N46 motor is not that bad, IF all is in working order.

Welcome...

I too have a 318i 2004 F/L N46 Engine.
with about the same millage.

the price you paid might seem a bit over because you can pick up a
E46 for about R60.000 BUT.......BUT.. the interior and electrical things will be broken for example if you looked around you would have noticed how most of them the leather is torn and ripped so for what you paid for a clean car is not too bad!!!

I wish you many many happy safe Km's in your new baby
