Hi, I am turning 25 next week and bought my first BMW when i was 24 as well.
Test drove a few cars and spoke to a few BMW mechanics. One point that stood out for me was that 4 cylinder BMWs can be bought easily where as people hardly sell there 6 cylinder.

Tested the 320i, 320d and 325i, couldn't find a 330i and couldn't afford anything above those models. Based on my research repairs and maintenance are roughly the same for the 320i and 325i.

I would trust a 6 cylinder BMW over a 4 cylinder ( just my opinion and i believe they are the kings at 6 cylinders).

I bought a e msport 325i, good daily, enough power for over taking and quite easily reaches 200km/h if u feel for some speed.

Good luck with your Buy

The OP wants a fuel efficient car though, so I don’t think the 325i will be a good choice. The 325i has many things going for it, but fuel efficiency isn’t one of them:thumbs:

Agree, but nothing a decat and software cannot fix (320i would still be lighter), but for me it was worth it.

I get +-600-650km per tank on my 325i. With heavy-ish driving and stop and go traffic its between 460-550km ballpark figure. They're not that bad.

Edit: Changed the word "heavy" to "heavy-ish" lol

Thank you all once agin for the great advice. I greatly appreciate it. It helps a lot when it comes to decision making. I will definately be doing a lot of DIY on the smaller components such as maintenance. Which I agree would help a lot with saving on cash. Im starting to get the deposit together now as well and will be shopping around a lot going forward. :smilebounce:

Id say 320d is the better bet. Rock solid engine, great power when you need it.

Something to be aware of that I haven't seen anyone mention yet. If you interested in an E90 around the 100 000km's mark. Just be aware that its common, for many E90's to need water pump replacement anywhere between 100 000km's and 150 000km's. Some may not need until much later.

I bought an 07 330i M-Sport when i was your age if not younger.... magic and bulletproof engine, much like most of the E90 power plants. Bought it with 70 000km's on the clock and ran without issues until about 120 000km's. From then the water pump went, the power steering pump, the fuel pump, some other wear and tear items as well. Almost all at once. If daddy wasnt there and willing to help me i would of sat without a car for a while. So with any older car you buy out of maintenance plan/warranty, just put away a little bit of cash every month to cover you should anything similar occur.

With your budget of 4k a month, you should be able to do this no prob, cause the cars you are looking at with their price ranges, will come in lower than that per month. Enjoy the search, the right one will come along!
