Hi all, BMW newbie here.

I recently saw the light thanks to Spikester666 and decided to buy a BMW.

What tips or advice can you give me about a BMW diesel?

Howzit and welcome.

You have come to the perfect place for any info.

I have a e90 320d myself and loving it.
Basics are the same with any other car. Keep your maintenance on date and don't skimp on important parts.

Power is amazing and right there ready and waiting for it's required moment. I have the auto and all though there are alot of people that are reserved about them. I don't see a issue. Aslong as you look after it.

The diesels are also very lovable after tuned so if you get tired of the power, just get a map done and de-dpf. You will want to live in the car.

Fuel consumption is also quite something. I mean im a heavy righty and I get 6.5l/100km mixed.

If you have any specific questions, don't hesitate to ask. There are alot of very knowledgeable guys on here willing to help.

My opinion: diesel or nothing:thumbs:

Welcome Bud!

So.. BMW Diesel engines are very solid. I could not fault the engine in my 320d, decent performance coupled with good consumption makes it a good daily car.

All the best searching for one.. Also I think the E82 120d coupe is a good looking option for good money lately!

Thanks for the quick welcome. I love a manual but have nothing against a auto.

I thought about a 120d. I love the e87. What are your thoughts on this?

As @cOlDFuSiOn mentioned above, the e87 is also a great option. Same motor as the e90 as far as I know, maybe minor differences, so same power, smaller car= more smiles in my opinion. I must admit, (at risk of getting my head chopped off) im not a fan of the 3door cars, but to each their own. Just make sure you get all your checks done and you are 100% happy with the car. Something I've noticed on mine, just have a look around for quick fixes, would just make you wonder what else was skimped out on. You don't want a car that was looked after just enough to keep it running.

Good luck with your search:smilebounce:

I was looking at a few e87 120d's but struggled to get a decent one for around R100k

Sorry only see now @cOlDFuSiOn mentioned the e82, reading like crap lately. My apologies :sorry:

Cars lately are more hit and miss than anything else. You can get a few good bargains if your really really look around and do your reasearch. Rather don't rush until you find exactly what you will be happy with.

What checks are you referring to? "Just make sure you get all your checks done" I've heard this before.

Checks as in, vehicle history, service history, what was done to the car during plan, and if possible after. Accident history, check the car for weird wear patterns. Basics like that
