trolling is serious business
haha but I've located a cleansing if I be trolling...
I apologize for seeming to only want to troll Gizmo...
I really am serious about fixing my beauty. All the talking about a bigger engine and such is merely wishful talking of a young noob lad.
I'm here to get REAL solid advice from gentleman who knows a thing or 1000 about BMW's and maintaining of these beasts.
I would rater be scorned here and be let straight on the narrow path than be talked a hole in my head by family saying this beauty of mine was a loss from the start.
To be blunt sir all I deeply wish for is to have my first Beemer love to run. Whatever way will be the best. As adviced by the Gurus of this Brotherhood.

IMHO a 318i is a 318i, don't try to make into something else. The changes required to put a 6-cyl M54 in there will cost far more than what the car is worth, and in the end it will still be a 318i with another motor (= diminished re-sale value).
The best bet would be to either fix or replace the N42/46 motor (not sure what is in there now). N42/46 motors are a dime for a dozen at scrapyards.
If you then still want a 6-cyl E46, sell the 318i and buy a 325i/330i. Any other option just does not make any financial sense.

Thank you for your sound advice Blue Shirt
These responses is why I came here too the forum. I'm a noob tired of people putting me down for buying my beauty. I kmow there were people out there able to give me sound advice.
My wish is to have my beauty be running perfectly and me being able to drive here for another 5 years (yes I'm young and broke haha)
I will take all of your advice to heart.
