My personal opinion would be to rather go for the 35W as it is good enough, the colour temperature would depend the coour light you want, both 6000k and 8000k will be a blue'ish white with 8000k being a bit bluer and slightly reduced light output.

Thanks. But will the 55w not be brighter especially since I have the projector housing :dunno:

Yup the 55W will be brighter, but is will also be hotter so there is the possibility that it might damage your light housings etc, not to sure about this but I rather play it safe.
Seeing that my OEM halogens are 55w, will the 55w HID kit be hotter since the wattage is the same?
Pls excuse my ignorance wrt xenons...

I would think that xenons should run at the same temperature as halogens of a similar wattage, but from experience to we it would seem the xenons get a lot hotter, I have seen guys whose headlight covers have started to form small cracks due to the heat. Personally I am not to sure about it exactly, but like I said before I rather play things safe.
Also most OEM xenons are 35W so it I would say it is a pretty safe bet.

I know BMW uses the (Could be wrong here) 4000k/6000k as there Xenons when you buy the option.

Actually BMW uses a 4300k on all models which uses a D2s type bulb and 5000k (more like 4800 but its marked 5000) on all models which uses the D1s type bulb:thumb:

@Andrew: Yeah that would obviously work but I know you're not going to do something stupid like put 55w Xenons in your E46 or something similar, I know you know how this stuff works.

@Sankekur: Depends on which OEM bulbs you are using, some colour shift and some don't.

85122 - Philips standard bulb. It starts at 4300K but after around 100hrs or so it color shifts (turns bluer) to around 5000K.

85122 + - Starts at 4300K just like the 85122, but STAYS at 4300K and does not color shift. This bulb remains yellower than a color shifted bulb. Note: some ebay sellers mention Limited Edition bulbs or that 85122+ are 5000K. BOTH of these statements are lies. First, there is NO LE bulb. Second, as I mentioned these bulbs start at 4300K and stay there.

Xenarc 66040 - According to data I have found, this bulb is 4300K with an output of 3210 lumens. Osrams often take a pinkish hue when they color-shift. Giving the bulb a different look than the Philips bulbs.

Xenarc 66240 - It appears this bulb is 4300K with an output of 3200 lumens. This bulb is a new generation replacement for the Xenarc 66040. It is unknown what if any functional differences exist between the two. Though structurally, the newer bulb now has the metal base support structure and no longer has the white cap over the base. Osrams often take a pinkish hue when they color-shift. Giving the bulb a different look than the Philips bulbs.

Hi

I need help with a xenon bulb for a 03 545i. It's my friends car and he's got it for from new and the motorplan has just gone out so there's no chance of BMW replacing the broken bulb. They want R3000 for a replacement bulb.

Is it worth it? Or can he get a better and cheaper bulb to replace the OEM one? I haven't looked at the bulb so i don't know what type of xenon it is but he did mention its a Philips.

Thanks

No its not its a complete and utter rip off! I have lots of OEM bulbs in my garage which I don't use. Find out what type of bulb it is and if its D2s then I've got for you, only R350:) plus free fitment.

Also need to replace an OSRAM Xenarc D2S 66040 for my 04 325i.

Believe the newer 66240 is also acceptable, even if only one bulb is replaced, but the BMW agent quoted +- R3 000.

May I ask in this forum where I can buy a suitable replacement at a reasonable price, even if someone have to send me a private email?

Thanks.

Would like to speak to you about a new D2S Xenon bulb. Have sent a PM to you to arrange a meeting/deal.

Hi Guy,

Do you still have any D2S bulbs?
More specifically, an Osram 622040 - 35W - P32d-2
