So this all started at the JHB Motor Show. My cousin and I and two of his friends all went along for the show. One of his friends is a technician for BMW. We get to talking at the show and I tell him that my 335i is not as response and feels a little sluggish.
He tells me that the vacuum lines could be on its way out and that turbos will fatigue with age. He then says to me “Would you like new turbos on your car?”……………..Hell YES
So last week Monday the car goes in. The original turbos were close to on their way out and were tired he says.
Tuesday new turbos for the car are approved and the first turbo is removed. Turbo two does not want to be removed from its home.
Wednesday approval is given to remove the engine to evict the second turbo. With the engine removed and the second turbo off, the new turbos go on.
While the engine is on the table, new vacuum lines are fitted around.
Thursday the engine goes back into the car all hoses connected, new oil and coolant added. First test drive and the charge pipe at the intake decides it does not like these stronger turbos and goes pop, new charge pipes fitted. It seems the new turbos are revealing tired weak spots in the 335i.
Second test run, EML light comes on; diagnose the cause, he finds that the Vanos solenoid needs replacing. Order placed for new unit.
Tuesday Vanos solenoid replaced, Wednesday full testing, he tells me that the car is now hauling like it should.
Wednesday afternoon I pick up the car. All adaptations have been reset so it feels like a different car. But man does this thing run, I thought it was fast when I fast got the car but damn. Tried a rolling start in second gear, hit the loud pedal and lost complete traction.
Now I wonder what a JB4 install would do ………… lol
