Two weeks ago while pulling from a robot, POP!! , Whizz!, turbo went for a duck, upon inspection one of the turbine blades came off and embedded itself inside the cat.
The car did not smoke, it even still boosted, but with a howling noise coming from the turbo.
The car had 221560km on the odo.
Here are some pics of the new one I got from Engine Parts, Garrett GT2556V Stock code 454191-5015S, VATN turbo at R8100-00 excl vat. At BMW the exact same turbo is around R17000-00.

Now comes the fun bit of disassembling half the car to replace the turbo... Make sure to properly prime the turbo before trying to start the engine. Take lots of pics.

The turbo is already back in, did a 1000km business right after the install, with no problems at all, the turbo is now really quiet, I wonder for how long....
While replacing the turbo I took the complete valve mechanism of the EGR out of the EGR vale, now the Fker can breath properly.
I also blanked the EGR pipe with a welch plug at the exit of the exh manifold and at the top EGR valve so no more exh gas into the manifold.

While replacing the turbo I made sure that the turbo was primed and also made sure that the oil supply and drain were good and clean.

Why not rebuild a new shaft/impeller setup?

Yes my plan is to rebuild the old one, I read somewhere that this GT2556V uses the same shaft and wheel as the standard GT25 series, I will pull it apart the weekend and measure everything with a caliper and compare the measurements with the GT25 series specs.

Thats good news. What was your consumption after you did the egr? I just plugged my vacuum lines and consumption went from 7.4 l/100km to 6.5 on the open road.

Were you able to do the turbo from below, or did you have to remove the tappit cover?
