New to BMW Brand...

Hey Everyone,

I have been looking around on the site for a while and all the topics are interesting and very helpful.

I bought a 2010 E90 323i in May 2013. It had 10500km on the clock. I know that this will be the best car I will ever drive and I cannot imagine every trading it in on anything else. I love the straight six in the engine bay, I love the automatic and paddle shift gearbox and generally I just love the car.

It now has 44000km on the clock. It has been for all the oil changes and services it could go for before the motorplan runs out. I am considering extending it. There is still a lot that can happen and I am not so sure about the service costs without a motorplan.

Anyway, I do need some input on somethings that is currently going on with the car.

In October 2014 I took the car to Leo Haese for an oil change. I asked them to have a look at the brakes as well and they replaced it. In the beginning of December 2014 the car started making a "clicking" sound everytime a pressed the brake as I approach a speed bump. Sometimes it is load, sometimes a little softer, but you can still hear it. Sometimes there is nothing. The thing is I took it back to BMW, but the "clicking" doesn't always happen. I drove around with the vehicle specialist and we couldn't hear anything. it was rather discouraging.

Secondly, when the car gears down, let's say after I get of the highway approaching the traffic light, it sometimes jolts. Sometimes it is so hard it feels as if someone has rammed my car from behind. This also happens occasionally. I asked the guys at Leo Haese to have a look at that as well and we drove around town and again nothing...

Now, I am not sure what to do. I cannot not take the car back again and again they cannot get the car to do the same thing. They are not sure what to look for. Has anyone had the same issues and if so what did you do to fix it? Or can anyone advice me as to what the problem could be?

Your help is really appreciated.
Regards,
André

Hey bud,

Not sure about the click sound when breaking.

I would suggest taking the car in for a software update and see if the gearbox sorts itself out.
If there is no update ask them to reset the gearbox adaption.

Remember you have motorplan so use it. Do not feel bad that you taking it back all the time.

Next time you take it in make sure they write on the job card that its the 2nd or 3rd or 4th time for the same issue.
They have a process they follow, the more you take it in the more deeper they go into the problem.

by doing this you will have a foot to stand on when something does break and you take it up with BMW SA.

Hi Karsh,
They have already reset the gearbox adaption 3 times, but because they cannot feel the jolt or the circumstances does not allow them to create the same situation they say they cannot fix it if nothing is wrong.

I am not sure what to tell them to force them to look for the issue. I am sure there will be an issue before long. It does not feel natural. Maybe I expected more because it is a BMW after all...

Well, I prefer Leo Haese over the guys in Menlyn, but I'll phone Fountains immediately. Anyone I should or can ask for in particular?

Hi Karsh,

Would that be the dealer in Harmony Street, Muckleneuk, Pretoria?

Hey guys,
Just wanted to say thank you for your advise. I took my car in today to go for drive with one of the service advisors at Fountains. It wasn't even necessary. The new immediately what I was referring to on my car and they said that they are getting all the gearbox problems that Leo Haese cannot solve... says a lot. I am so grateful and impressed with and by the gents I met at Fountains.

And thanks again for your help and advise.

I was going to take my F10 to Leo Haese next week for a service as it's more convenient for me because I work closeby. After reading this thread I've cancelled the appointment and would rather go to Auto Alpina in Boksburg where I usually go. Fountains is too far out the way for me though.

I give up!

Again I am being told that they reset the adaption values on the gearbox and now everything is okay! This the 4th time that someone did that! It does not solve he problem and in 2 weeks time the gearbox will be doing the same!

What do I do now??
