Hi all,

I am a new member. Have been driving a BMW GS F800 for the last 4 years.
Currently looking at buying my first car, a BMW 220d, to expand my vehicle options.

Looking forward to join the community.

Cheers,
Stiaan

Welcome. Why not look at a 3 series? Will give you even further options or practicality. 320d or 330d. Enjoy

Thanks everyone.

I really like the coupe and the styling of the 2 series got me. I don't really need a 4 door in the near future and the 2 series coupe will address my needs.
[font=Tahoma, Verdana, Arial, sans-serif]Trying to find a 220d with low mileage that ticks all my requirements is difficult though. I am very picky when it comes to what I want lol.

Any reason to rather go for the 3 series instead of the 2 series?

Hi and welcome!

Agree with you on the styling of the 2 series.

What would you aim with the car be? Are you after something that looks nice, or goes well?

You have the advantage that all 3 options (220d,320d,330d) will return great fuel consumption.

F30 will definitely be a bigger car and slightly more spacious, but you mentioned that won't necessarily be a factor for you.

What specs are you after? I was advised to ensure I get Harmon/Kardon & Business Nav (for the larger screen) at minimum, and have to say I'm really glad I did!

I think a 220d would be an awesome car for sure.

Have you driven a 220? 320? 330?

Hi @"Morribiscuit" and thanks.

My aim with the car would be a second option of transport for commuting but also for road trips. I mainly use the motorcycle to commute to work and back but after 4 years the rain is becoming torture, so I want to be able to switch between the car and motorcycle depending on weather and mood.

The reason for the diesel choice is fuel economy and the low-end torque, not too bothered about top speed. I am still young-ish (late 20's) so yes, I would like to get something that looks nice (must have the M-Sport package) but would also give me the thrills the motorcycle gives me on the pull away.

After watching multiple videos and sitting in a few cars, I prefer the BMW interior. I want the Harmon/Kardon system for sure. What do you find are the benefits of the Business Nav?

I have driven the 220, and it had put such a massive smile on my face. But I have not driven a 3 series yet.

The pandemic and working from home has reduced the amount of kilometers I drive by 95% and I am considering my options to move overseas, so I am not in a massive rush to get a car and I don't mind shopping around and being super picky on what I want.

Completely understand @"st1aan"

The bike will be the 'toy' & the daily pretty much, and the car is the back up [and transport for all three girlfriends].

First consideration will be the cost of having a new car & insurance and and and vs driving time with WFH. Keep that in mind!

I am 100% a diesel boy. Also a lover of B58 though...maybe just BM bias nowadays?!

The torque from a diesel is awesome as is the fuel consumption. Think this would suit you [especially coming from a bike].

Harmon/Kardon is a must! Business Nav per say is maybe not as important as the BIG screen that it comes with. Really does look nice and you spend a fair bit of time looking at it. Non-business nav has the same space, just not fully taken up by a screen. But suppose another option could be an aftermarket headunit if you wanted, so maybe not totally critical?

I have NOT driven a 220d Or 320d to be honest. If you like it - you are already winning! Look for great deals.

An advantage of the 6 cyl 30d is how effortless the engine is. It has an incredible amount of pull in any gear and ends up being rather 'effortless'. Doesn't rev or scream much to pull you along at any speed and you really dont notice it.

220d/320d vs 330d is maybe 130kg weight difference - dont believe you will notice that.

220d i can imagine being more 'fun' and nippy.

Loving my 330d. Coming from the Polo, it is no where near the same, but I will never look back.

Pop a message if you'd like to chat offline or anything.

Good luck with the search!

Just on a side note, the business Nav has the narrower screen, the Professional Nav has the wide screen. Having had both I would definitely look for the Prof Nav, so much nicer. I normally look for the following specs as a bare minimum:

- xenon (adaptive LED even better)
- sunroof
- M-sport
- HK
- Prof Nav as a nice to have but not essential

Enjoy the search!

HK sound is a must!
Pro Nav is the bigger screen, Business nav is the smaller one.
