Howzit gents been browsing the forum for a while now after recently picking up my 320i f30 m sport , lovely cars they are coming from a Golf R its a lot slower but its also alot more refined . Anyway , i picked the car up used and noticed that the low beams are way way too low , have to basically drive them on high beam all the time and get flashed by oncoming traffic like mad:smashScreen: . Is there anyone that can give some advice and or help me out with adjusting them to the right level ? car is still on plan but the stealer wants me to book the cab in for a day and time is somehing i dont have right now .

If it is under plan take it in to a dealer. Probably needs to be reset or otherwise they will replace. It might be less of a mission than driving out to someone who can help adjust it.

Does your car have xenon lights, the guys with eye rings around the lights? If so then it should auto set the headlights.

On my E90 it works like this and you can check if works correctly. Park somewhere that it is dark, like under ground garage or just so the noise of the car is in a dark area. Park close to a wall. Then switch your headlights on and see if the car does the following:

The headlight beams must go up and then down. If this doesnt happen, think it only does this if your car is fitted with xenon's (lights with round rings around lights) then your arm might be broken.

I think even non-xenons go up (auto-level) when you start the car

Thanks for all the replies yes it does have the xenons and yes when engaging the headlights on they start out fine-ish and then drop very low to a point where nothing further than 10m is lit

Its actually very easy to do although it maybe some trial and error, I adjusted mine and drove around the block realised it was too high and shining up into the trees came back home lowered it abit and drove around again until i was happy.

Will give this a try thanks for the help bru I shall update once i give it a go

Self levelling is a gimmick and never works the way it should. I had the same problem with my E90 and managed to set my lights perfectly seeing as it never levels itself as it should.

At the back of the light there is a screw. On the E90s you turn this screw counterclockwise to adjust the light up and clockwise to adjust downwards. I turned it about 1.5-2 full turns and the level is just right now.

Below is a pic taken of an F30's adjustment screw. Park in a parking lot at night and adjust the lights as you feel, then take a drive and make adjustments accordingly.

Hi there,

I have an F20 with Halogen lights, I know this may not help but, on the right hand side of the steering wheel there should be a scrolling dial which you can use to set the level of your lights. Perhaps your model has this too :=):
