New earth connections

Hi all.
i have just completed renewing both earth connections on my rear light clusters as both have now burnt through. It is a very easy job and can be done by the most amateur of DIY mechanics,i even did it.I do find it a serious problem though, and a big misgiving of my car (e46 320i) as if left unattended could possibly melt the connectors on both the light cluster and harness. have there been further issues regarding the rear light clusters on anybody else s e46.

I still need to do this, there was a a DIY on here somewhere, how did you do it?

All i did,
1.)cut the current earth strap off the connector. (mine had already melted a bit of the plastic connector)
2.)made up a an extention cable with a slip on connector piece.
3.)joined the old earth strap to the extention piece insulated with shrink sleave.
4.)pluged it onto the light cluster carriage.
5.) Done. (annoying signal on dash gone)
