New E30 race car project!

Hey guys!

After years of trying to get into racing, I bought a 1984 320i coupe this evening to go racing in the fine car class at killarney next year. 136 000km on the clock and not a spot of rust anywhere to be seen. Now just to get rid of the Alpina mags and get nice 15"s with semi slicks, whoop whoop!!

Now.....to keep the E46 328 or not?!?!?

4 hole 100pcd. 17"s are going to kill the car on the track. Bought the car for 14k and can get like 6k for the wheels and on a shoestring budget, every bit helps! I like the euro look for the E30, so 15" max with nice wide offset need to go on the car.

congrats on the new car! post some more pics of this beaut! bit sad to see such a nice condition car turned into a track toy (if you tell us it has a crackless dash im sure you will be shot:rollsmile but sounds like its not going to waste. whats the plans for the car other than the wheels? 6k might be a bit optimistic but if the tires are good it might be in the ballpark. are they the WAW replicas?

What are the plans for the suspension on the E30? You can get the semi slicks at the same place we got the 18" tyres. I asked because I also wanted to have a spare set of slicks put on the 16's!! :rollsmile:

Hey Guys

Soooooooo.....

Last night me and my housemate start cleaning the car up. Fix the alternator mounting brackets, isolate the horrid cold start valve because the car was idling at 2k and popping on the over run, which solved the problem and the car was purring like a horny kitten.

We flush the coolant system twice with a radiator flush and the crap that came out of that coolant system was filthy! After the second flush, added antifreeze and water and started up and...... wicked miss and water out the exhaust, so the head gasket went.


We decided at half past nine last night to pull the head and set to work. We finished at about 00:30 with the head off after loosening the head bolts with an 11 spanner that fits perfectly on the splines.

Had a look at the water jackets and it seems like the car never had antifreeze in becuase the water jackets were almost totally clogged up with deposits and scale, so if the head gasket didn't go last night, it would have done so in the next few weeks.

Head went in to engineers this morning and should get it back on monday after a skim, pressure test and valve seat check.

I'm looking for head bolt torque settings for the m20b20, but can't find them. If anybody could help it would be great!


Re the Alpinas, they are Storm replicas and will drop the price to 4k with tires, so if anybody knows of someone who wants them, PM me!

If the car was running we could have taken it to the meet-up on Sunday. Will have to go in the silver fox!
