Tadaaaaaaaa!

Look at these pictures! Isn't the old girl stunning?!?!?!

I had the car dropped at Koenic with an N-Force kit and it works relatively well. Not over hard, but it controls weight shift quite well and the car is not that much lower.

I sorted out the timing and the car is MUCH more lively now and revs cleanly, with a good kick at about 3700RPM.

Also did some "testing" in an unnamed industrial area and the car is WAAAAAAAAY faster and corners wonderfully, with adjustable attitude.

Anyhoo, in Joburg this week, so the car is parked under it's tarp and will be pulled out on Friday for some fetling and to put the seat in and then it's the first trackday on Sunday!!!

Checked already boet, rear steers well if you keep the revs high.

Yo!

I had my first track outing with the car on sunday and it was a mixed bag, with some positives and negatives.

The car handled beautifully and caried lots of speed into the corners and the tires allowed me to keep the speed throughout. The level of grip was higher than I have experienced with either my golf or the E46 and with the extra speed I carried through the corners, my exit speeds were nice and high, with the car naturally drifting to the outside clipping point on turn 1 and turn 3. Towards the end of the day I was not braking into turn 4, just a quick lift before the corner to get the front to grip and this raised the speed I carried on the back straight by about 10km/h

The downside was that I had very little brakes, as the master cylinder went when I bled the brakes, so only had about 2/3 max braking power and by the end of the day the pedal was on the floor, so new master cylinder.

I did about 1:44's in the car, which is below my target of 1:40's, but I'm sure there are a few seconds to be had in a proper braking setup and tuning of the car. The car was belching black smoke due to a rich mixture.

Thanks to Psymon69 for coming out to support me! You rock dude! Next time bring a helmet and you can come for a few laps!

awesome  what camber you running?

Haven't even done castor, camber and alignment yet! That's on the to-do list.

once you play with the geometry a bit you will definitely bring down lap times alot on the e46/36 -2.5F and -1.5R is a good starting point for camber...

im not sure how much caster you should put on because you dont want as much as a car with power steering...

how you going to make it adjustable... slot the towers?

Will definitely slot the towers, yes. There's a guru in maitland, Erol Arendse from suspension city. He looks after many local race cars and he sorted my wandering E46 out.

Not sure to tell him what to do though. The car handles very well, but I get a bit of mid corner understeer when I push on a bit. Think the car could be a bit more loose at the back mid corner.

I haven't even touched the tire pressures. Still sitting at 2.2 bar (I think)

more front camber should sort the understeer... rather set your syspension before playing with pressure...

If Erol has setup an e30 track car before definitely get input from him but also remember the car has to be setup for you you can get basic settings for a start but you will have to fine tune it for you to get the most out of it...

Yoooooooooooo!

Long time no update! Been busy with work and looking after my old man, but getting back into the swing of things again.

So, at the trackday a few weeks back the brakes went bye-bye and I had the master cylinder rebuilt about two weeks ago, but the peddle was still dropping to the floor, even after about a liter of brake fluid being bled through the system.

If you pump the brake, it comes up and stays up, but leave it for a few seconds and you can push the pedal to the floor again. So after some heavy head scratching, I strip the back brakes last night. I get my one housemate to pump the brakes and everything looks fine. I put the drums on loosely, tightened the handbrake and pulled it up and the brakes were nice and high! WTF!

Turn back the handbrake cables and go and inspect and then it smacks me in the face. The auto adjuster for the back left is not installed properly and the adjuster bar is at its lowest setting!!! Install the adjuster plate, test and it works. Go to the other side and the adjuster plate is missing! Gone! Voertsek! iFokoli! So the problem was that the brake pads were too far from the drums and I had to pump them get enough fluid to push the salve cylinders out again (because they were pushed back by the brake springs).

Some pics!

This is starting to get ridiculous. Bike, boat, BMW and a Moris woody in the garage. The woody needs new brakes and rebuilding of the side wood.

The brake drums before and after a going over with the drill and a wire brush and then a spray of high temp black below that.
