I would extend the MP by 1 year, the peace of mind that comes with it cant be matched by any aftermarket warranty. In all my previous cars (all second hand) I have always had a year or more of MP left.
Anything seems out of place or acting up, you just book it in, hand it over and you don't even have to think about coverage or cost.
If you go the warranty route, ask them if there is anyway they can only activate the warranty a day before MP expires, no point running the two simultaneously.
