So as you folk know, I was fortunate enough to be quickest on the draw on the bargain of the century, being splintheter's X5, that belonged to a forum member before that.
What you folks dont know, is that 3 weeks ago I sold the wife's F30 for a Honda Accord, due to cash flow reasons, and I fsckled up royally... I did not do my homework on Honda, took it for face value, and to spite it looking decent, and being brilliant value, I got it wrong, and the car is a dogs breakfast.
I shoved the honda up the dealers butt, and we are going to be involved in a bitter battle for the next 3 to 6 months, lets just say the Consumer protection act is not as accessible as what you may think, I cant talk about that now. I am stuck paying for 3 cars until we reach an agreement.
Hence, no car, wife needs a car, stole my F01 which is not ideal, and then enter this magnificent specimen of an X5.
For us, and for the wifes usage, the car is completely wrong, The motor is far too big in terms of power and consumption, but man what a car.
I have to take my hat off to the previous owners, high mileage, this X5 is really really well maintained. As a matter of fact, all things considered it, is immaculate.
Relying on forum ethics, I bought the car unseen, and I am really not disappointed at all.
And this will be the wife's daily until we can sort out the Honda saga.
The only issue is that running 2 BMW v8's with 100km per day each is seriously expensive, and may be problematic.
Therefore, if this car comes up for sale in 3 to 6 months time, its not because it is problematic, a 3.0 diesel X5 would have been preferred.
SO now the story.
Splintheter and myself reached an agreement on Monday, by Monday I had the car financed and flew up to Cape town. on Tuesday afternoon.
I was then greated by a long time Forum friend, who collected me in a gorgeous E65 and then drove me out to meet Splintheter. The deal was concluded,
On the way home, we got lost, and ended up in the Cape flats, with a pitch black X5 and an a pitch black E65, dodgy mofo's.
Got out of there in a hurry, got to Somerset west where i spent the night.
I took the road on Wednesday morning, and the X5 did not skip a beat, car is practically flawless.
Due to the fact however that the car is not on my name yet, and for financial reasons, I actually stuck to the speed limit, all the way...
This is rather difficult , considering in sections driving 80km/h as per law, while two TransLux busses comes shooting past you, or some stupid vaallie sitting on your back side while you are doing 120, trying to obey the law.
Slept over is colesburg, and got her home today.
Total trip was 1,383km and I averaged 12.3L/100, which is not bad, but it was mostly open road.
Long story short
Wife is in love with it, and, if she can learn how to drive it economically, then we will keep her.
Some obligatory pics, 7 is dirty unfortunately... Will do a photo shoot when both are clean, I still owe pics on the F01
