Initially I wasn’t a fan of the rear diffuser, it’s growing on me. The color and msport guise is stunning. Congrats.

Hi All.

Just an update or rather an end to this thread. The SO was sadly involved in a accident last week with the X1. Physically she is getting there but sadly emotionally not. There was a fatality , the driver of the other vehicle passed away on the scene more so as he was not wearing seatbelt.

The impact concerned me thou as non of the airbags both front and curtain side deployed on the X1. Just got feedback that the car is a write off. I want to however pursue this matter with BMW directly and have already emailed them and a list of requirements was requested.

Anyone have any information or guidance on how should i proceed

So sorry to hear bud, glad that your SO is okay.. Most important thing. Sorry to hear about the other driver, I can only imagine what the family and SO are going through.

As I understand, a car is usually a write off if the airbags deploy and/or the value of the car's repair is >60% of the cost of the car (percentage varies between insurers and the car's details).. Perhaps the latter is the case? Especially since the car is FWD and chances are the engine/drivetrain took a knock.

Yes thanks bud. Correct. I want to however challenge BMW SA around the safety aspect as the SO could of been badly injured or fatally as well which is my concern

Damn, sorry to hear about the bad news, but glad she is ok.

I’m no expert, but as far as I know the airbag sensors sit in line with the bumper stiffener (in line with the number plate). It looks like the biggest part of the hit was just above that, so maybe there was not enough force / damage in that specific area to trigger the sensors?

Keen to see what they say about it

Hi All

BMW SA have done the necessary investigation and have forwarded me a detailed feedback report. As both myself and SO sit back and reflect as well as reading the report we are proud to have owned such a well built car. The SO is adamant that the replacement be similar.

Are you allowed to share the report here?
