new 640d / 550i

The new 6 series are fantastic cars... but personally, I'd take the 550i purely because I'm addicted to the series.

Don't listen to LZ, you don't want a tractor :yuck::rollsmile: *Awaits flaming*

It's really up to you though. The 5 series will be more of a comfy cruiser, spacious etc while I see the 6 series as a bit of a hooligan, but also combining the luxury.

What are you looking for? Between the two?

Naw,

I tried having this argument with some of the other members, and each to his own on this, else we might break into a fist fight.

Jeff, I tell you what though, having replaced my M5 with a diesel, its the only thing that came even close

When I opened this thread I misread it as 640d / 650i - so just the engine difference as opposed to series as well. So going to first anwser based on my initial thought - for the 6 Series Coupé, I personally would go for the 650i instead of the diesel since it plays into the character and charm of these sporty grand cruisers! But for the 5 Series, this is a different story, so for me the diesels are appealing, but then again, so are the bigger petrol engines!

So based on the actual question, I'd most likely go for the 550i... :fencelook: :inlove:

Agree with Philip on this one. It is very much a personal choice though, and the Six looks gorgeous. At least they will both have one thing in common, heavier devaluation than a falling lead ball.

Why do some people have such convenient problems... F my life!:bangdesk:

I looooove the the F10 and in a 550i, very few people will get close to your rear bumper.

The 6 series, is an amazing car though. It really feels special. BUT the idea of a diesel coupe...:yuck:
It doesn't seem quite right. It kinda retards the whole thing, don't you think? Maybe its just me...

Those are 2 very different cars. One is a proper family sedan with more than enough power to create a fun factor, whilst the 6 series can only accomodate 2 rear passengers but looks AWESOME!

I for one cannot go for the 6 series because I have 3 kids and certainly have no problem with the looks or performance of the F10.

You need to be more elaborate around your requirements so that people can provide better input and not just "diesel because it has a crap load of torque" and the rest of the yada yada!

A car isn't just about what is under the bonnet.

Well, one has 610Nm @ 1750-4500 rpm, the other 630Nm @ 1500-2500 rpm, so I don't think torque is an argument here, and if it is, the 550i wins, since it has it for MUCH longer...

I think the choice would be what do you want it for? If you want power, the 550i wins everytime, if you want something different, the six is the winner. I would go for the 5, but thats just me...

I'm a diesel junkie, but if were to choose between these 2, then 550i for sure

I don't mind that the car looks almost like any other regular 5'er. A V8 is always going to feel more special than a 3.0d.

Well it has just been announced that the 550i will receive a power upgrade from 300kw/600NM to 330kw/650nm.. as per the Facelift 7 Series and 6 Gran Coupe motors.

Not sure when those motors will arrive in S.A..
