New 320d or 328i

Hi guys

I'm looking at buying a new 3 series BMW. I'm torn between two options and I need some advice so that I can weigh all the opinions and make a decission

Options:

1) 320d modern line 8 speed sport auto transmission
The only extras I want is Xenon lights and 18" wheels

2) 328i modern line 6spd manual
The only extras I want is Xenon lights.

The 320d will be +- R440 000. The 328i will work out +- R460 000.

I'm still planing on test driving both cars. Will there be a noticeable difference in performance between the 320d with auto gearbox vs. the 328i manual? Please bear in mind that I'm trading in my 2.0 TSI Scirocco DSG (don't ask why). I dont expect to get the same performance, but I'm looking at something that won't frustrate me to much.

Is it worthwhile spending R20 000 extra to get an 'entry level' (appart from the modern line option) 328i over the 320d? What about future trade in values for the two options?

I am a diesel fanatic, but I doubt you'll feel any power loss if you go the 328i, It will be a better drive.

320d FTW:thumbs: cant go wrong with the diesel, go for a test drive then you will have a better feel for what both cars offers!

From your Sciroco , go for the 328i , and you will get way more performance wise too

Dude, you can't even compare the performance of the 328i to a 320d or even your Scirocco. That 328i motor is a beast. There's no way the others would keep up. The torque is similar to the 320d yet way more power.

If performance is not your only measure and an overall performance package is what you want, I'd say the 320d especially cos of that auto box and ridiculously low fuel consumption with really decent performance.

Go for the 320d... It'll look nicer too! Also with those modest options you want, it should trade in well in a few years too.

BMW did the pricing purposefully like this!!!
A nicely kitted out 320i/d will get u an entry level 328i...

So you opt for the 328i and realise you cannot live without certain luxuries, and take a little few (Xenons, 18s, Sunroof) and you paying over R500k....:flyfun:

Go for the 328i... should actually be quicker than your 2.0Tsi....

320d is no slouch but the 328i will offer much more performance. 8 speed box is brilliant but I still enjoy manual.

Even on the fuel efficiency side, the 328i has some impressive figures. The F30 is an awesome car through and through :thumbs:

I think I'm going to get the 328i. I don't mind going from auto back to manual. The 328i already has things such as the 18" wheels standard so the only option I want to add is the xenon lights (I've hardly ever used the sunroof in any of my cars.

I feel its worht spending 15 - 20k extra to get the 328i - with the only difference (appart from the engine etc.) being the gearbox.
