New 2 Series Coupe vs 1 Series Coupe

Hi All,

I have been reading on the internet that the 2 Series Coupe will be replacing the 1 Series Coupe.

I'm interested in purchasing the 1 Series Coupe however should I rather not wait for the 2 Series Coupe to come out?

When the 2 Series Coupe comes out will the 1 Series:

-Become a collectors item?
-Will the value of the car increase/decrease?

1 series hatch ==> New 1 series
1 series coupe ==> New 2 series

No i don't think it will be a collectors item. Prices will decrease when the new 2 series comes out.

Its just like the 4 series and the 3 series. the e92 3 series prices will also go down when the 4 series comes to our shores.

Its not really the discontinue of a certain car but merely rebranding with a new number. Thus i can't see prices rising and it being a collectors item.

Is a 323i a collectors item when the 325i came out. No, its merely rebadging a existing car with essentailly the same engine.

If you can afford the 2 series then get it. If you prefer the styling of the 1 series coupe then go for that.

The 1 series coupe (E87), might become more of a colelctors car than others.. however it will not appreciate in value.

I would still say the 2 series will be a better car.. if the M135i is anything to go by.. the M235i is gonna be a stonker!

I would say wait it out.
Either way, it's going to be a win/win.

You might just like the 2 series, if not you will 1 series at a good price.

I doubt prices will appreciate in value, however these cars (1Ser coupe) are holding their value pretty well (Retail), all the models 120d, 125i & 135i.

I was looking at a 3D model of the 2series, based on the spy pictures. I wasnt over thrilled.....the 1 series coupe has a much more chunkier/muscular look and aggressive stance, and you notice the wider track on the 1series at the rear, on the two series it isn't overtly apparent.

The 1 coupe was styled to create some lineage towards the 2002 and E30, you can see it in the general angularness and boxiness of the sheet metal.

With the two series they gone for a sleek look, very raked front end as apposed to upright on the 1ser coupe.

I prefer the look of the 1 ser coupe........imho. 2series will defintely be faster straight out the box.

am sure there is going to be quite a waiting list for a personal spec'ed 2 series. if you not too fussed about spec'ing it yourself, then you wont have to wait as long.

i have 1 series coupe atm. i love it, but if i were in your position i would wait for the 2 series.

IMHO the 1-series coup never grew on me. It looks downright odd from certain angles. I do agree with the other comments though. The current 1-series coup will become allot cheaper as people try and offload them to upgrade to the 2-series.

Furthermore. Have you seen the images of the new 2 series? Looks like it is going to be sexy!! i am waiting for this before I decide on the 1 or 2 series.

I would most definitely not buy a new 1 series coupe now. That's just me. I am a very patient man.

I too am patiently waiting... Badly want to get into a x35 (M135i pricing is tempting me and 135 coupe prices are insanely low) but I think the newer tech is the way to go too! So wait we shall! :thumbs:
