Need to replace ELV and CAS but need advice

Hi Everyone, this is my first post but certainly not the last. I'm driving a 2007 E90 325i Motorsport. The electronic steering lock light came on and in red. The car didn't start at all. I took the car to an Auto Electrician who says that the ELV in the steering column needs to be replaced and the CAS unit. I know that BM dealer is going to charge me with a hectic amount and looking to save some bucks here. Is it possible to purchase second hand ELV and CAS and then recode the CAS by copying the old unit data to the second hand one. This AutoElec, says he can recode but if not so sure. If any one know of a place that can do this would be a huge help and if there's a DIY solution to this problem. Car is sitting in my garage at the moment and would need to get it towed to a place that can fix this. I'm desperate to get this car back on the road again but seriously not looking to get hammered on the cost...

Howzit,

Where are you based bud? If in the East Rand area I would be able to assist. It's in very, very remote cases that the actual ELV unit needs to be replaced. Most failures of this kind is because of the actual CAS unit failing.

I am able to replace the CAS and transfer all your old Key data and coding across.
