Need advise on buying a E92 M3

Hi guys,

I am very new to the BMW M/// cars and doing a lot of research, as per the topic I am looking at buying a E92 M3 , however I noticed that there are some Rod bearing issues on these cars...

If I buy this M3 this will be a long-term commitment which I don't want to gamble.

My question is if I do buy a M3 E92 and replace the bearing will the motor be bullet proof for the next 100k-200k? Are there any other issues with the motors as the one that I would buy would probably be out of motor plan.

Personally its either the M235i or the E92 M3.

I think everyone should have at least one M3 in their life, even if it's for a short time. It's a life changer and for me bearing or no bearing issue choosing an m car over a 35 is a no brainer

To answer the OP's question, yes it will be good for 100k kms. Think of it as a major service item every so often. If you plan for it, it is not so bad.

When I had my e92 ///M3, I didn't use it enough as I was too worried about it getting damaged in parking lots or being parked in the sun. This made me use it less which meant it was in the garage more than it was on the road.

As polly said, there is nothing like an ///M car, everytime you drive it, you can't help but smile. When you get your's use it as a daily if you can afford it and enjoy every minute of the sheer driving pleasure.

Do the rod bearings, regular oil changes, there are a couple other niggles that crop up, build a slush fund and enjoy, any '35 car is brilliant and you won't be sorry, but the character and DNA of an M car, in this case the M3 is very different .....find a clean example, if it's in plan, don't worry, if it's out if plan, do bearings ASAP, and you should be ok....

Thanks for the replys.

Why did you sell your M3 though. I will actively look for one next year April. Please let me know by that time if someone has a clean E92 for sale.

My only concern was the durability of the motors and reliability. But I guess as per my previous statement if I replace the bearings all will be well

Kind Regards

Thanks , I like the M235i which is still under motorplan but there is something about the E92 M3 that pulls me. If I find a clean one as you mentioned next year april then I most probably buy one.

Just one question the bearings that gets replaced , are they different or stronger the the stock one?
