Such a pity these engines are still dogged with this problem! Otherwise I would quite happily own one, even out of motorplan! :fencelook:

Could be your MAF.

Thats also what they said? But it seems very odd... have you heard about any problems like that? They diagnosing the problem they getting a MAF and HPFP so 10 days wait..

Well they reprogrammed the car with the new software and its running perfectly and much much better than before.... i think they are just going to change the MAF incase like bmw always do since they just claim it under warranty work.... but it could have been a re occuring glitch like i suffered with my oil level sensor so i have no idea what the problem is and i dont think they do either bt since the new dme update the car feels like new , idles better and drives much smoother! so im happy as it is..

Then they also done the SW update etc etc just like you said above

And then it done it again a few weeks later as it always was the HPFP, i hope this isnt the case for you bud but its the exact same symptoms i had with mine to the tee

I do not think its the hpfp...you need to read the error code to check what the issue is...kinda difficult to diagnose without an error code number...i remember you had an intake fitted...could be that the maf sensor is fouled as a result of this?

I saw this from someone with N55 engine on e90post.com

Long story short:
1. went to trackday
2. drove like crazy
3. run out of fuel last session
4. reduced engine power + check engine light
5. car felt sluggish, poor throttle response
6. took it in for service, initial code pulled was "low fuel rail pressure"
7. got a call today from BMW that the fuel pump had failed and was replaced

disclaimer:
1. car has 15000 km, 9400 miles currently (stock)
2. march 2010 build date
3. had 2 longish cranks in the past (both after stalling, NOT cold starts)
4. i was running HARD when i ran out of fuel on the track that may have lead to the failure of the HPFP
5. i do not believe the fuel pump was defective, and instead i believe i have contributed to the damage

I had the same problem 3 times this year on my 335i “Engine Fault: Reduced Power”. So far, this is what has been done:

Recall Campaign 10E-A02: N54 High-Pressure Fuel Pump

1. Item 0059091 Replace High Pressure Pump
2. Part 13 51 7 616 446XP AT-HIGH-PRES R4156.22

I see part 446 is the latest HPFP...I hear BMW is on N54 HPFP part number eight, at last count.

"Recall: Checking injectors in fuel injection system and removing, scanning and installing or replacing 3 injectors as required with the N54 engine produced from 04/02/2007 through 10/31/2008"

1. Part 13 53 7 585 261 Injector X3
2. Part 13 53 7 584 315 Gasket Ring
3. Part 13 53 7 564 751 Decoupling E

The cost was to BMW SA Warranty at R5082.40
I feel the car is not as powerful and responsive as it used to be. I will have to do a DYNO just to confirm this.

Reviving an old thread here,

Took my 335i N55 in for a checkup this morning as the car cranks about 7 times (hot and cold start) before idling. Shortly after - engine light. Power cycle and car is back to normal but feels sluggish and isn't as responsive as she used to be.

Got a call from BM to confirm the HPFP is packing up or low fuel rail pressure.

This will obviously happen now that i dont have any motor-plan anymore and keep in mind, the new motor has only done about 15000 kays.

They are saying that the HPFP is not part of the engine they replaced and so i have to pay R16000 for a new one.

F0KKK!!!
