N54 Water Pump failure - Assistance needed

Morning good Folks,

I need some assistance please.

On Saturday night during a short drive my fan came on quite loud with the amber warning vehicle overheating reduce speed, shortly followed by the Red Stop immediately and the vehicle going into a limp mode, fortunately I was at my complex gate and immediately parked the Car.

On Sunday I checked the fluids and checked for leaks, started the car to monitor and soon as it reached the operating temperature the same sequence of events took place Amber warning then red immediate stop.

I dont have any diagnostic tools to determine exactly what the cause is, however with a Fanatics site search and Google all symptoms point towards failed Electric water pump. Vehicle has 117 xxx kms on it.

Problem is the Car is now parked in Greenstone and cannot be driven too far.
Does anyone know of a good place I can take the car to in Edenvale or close by the Greenstone area? I'm trying to avoid the expense of getting a flat bed to tow it. It can be driven a short distance while cold before overheating. However if the repair shop is a bit far I will have to tow it then risk overheating and further damage.

The Other question for anyone who has replaced their N54 Water pump recently, Please can you supply any information where I can get a reasonably priced new pump and thermostat.

Any assistance is much appreciated

Thanks
Rom

Call you insurance and ask them to tow it to a known workshop.

I did this plenty times when i had a VW and never paid for towing.

Cant help with the other questions unfortunately

Do you have a JB4?
If not anyone with an MHD setup should be able to read the error codes.
Any Edenvale volunteers?
You can pick up a pump and thermostat from Goldwagen or BMW.

Hey bro

I know the pain.

If you have insurance, park the car outside your complex and call in a tow truck for a break down, they will take you to your repairer free of charge on a flat bed, just check your policy to see how many tows are covered for in a year.

The pump will cost you R6k new, i bought mine from Goldwagen its an OEM VDO Siemans.

You then will need a Thermostat, which is also bought from Goldwagen for R1100.

Anti freeze is also needed.

I had the work done at Ross Duncan for R2600 labour if i remember.

Total cost should not be more than R10 000

Research says that the new upgraded Water pump ***2426 requires new bolts? The GW part does not come with the new bolts? Please advise if I need to purchase this from BMW separately?

It depends on the pump.

Some pumps had a rubber spacer were the bolts are inserted. You may require shorter bolts for the new pump as they dont have these rubber spacers any longer, making the current bolts too long for the pump

No probs buddy. Stephen told me they also found that O2 sensor issue that's been as issue for a while. Place is called BMWorx. No, I'm not affiliated with them, although they had no qualms about almost copying my business name :roflol:

Dolf seems very knowledgeable and comes with vast experience, took the time to explain to me the how the water pump works and how failure occurs.
