PG9 Confirms the Crankshaft Forged. I already got confirmation a while ago about the Piston and Rods side. Those are made by Mahle if I am not mistaken.

Ya it has, the N55 uses cast not forged.

I think BMW realized the error in their ways once people started boosting the shit out of the N54. BMW quickly decided to make cast internals so the cars would break and BMW could make more money. Or... it was just too expensive to do forged internals and cast was cheaper.

Either way, this is good to know. BOOST AWAY.

There is not much information on this but from what I have gathered over the years somewhere towards the end of 08 they went with the cast pistons.
