N54 135i Auto propshat - other models with the same prop?

Hi guys

I'm busy replacing my N54 135i Auto prop due to bad vibrations and was told the N55 135i DCT is a straight swop

Unfortunately this is not the case

Would any prop from any e82 or e87 work as a replacement?

I've read refurb's are a hit and miss but welcome any other suggestions too, thanks

Hi.

A quick check on RealOEM suggests that not any prop will work.
Best to get the same confirmed with a part number. Replace CB and Guibo while you at it.

I've been down the refurb route twice and it wasn't good. Dont even bother with it...

I had a vibration on my E85.
The propshaft was serviced and feels better.
Have you asked a specialist to check to see if a simple service will work?

Thanks guys

I’ve been quoted R9500 for the refurb and hesitant to do it since feedback has not always been positive

I’ll check realoem, perhaps another prop somewhere could work, maybe a 130i?

Best is to take it off and have it inspected at least for wear. I would not waste time with a second hand part - bite your lip and get a new OE replacement. Probably a good idea to replace suspension bushes and specifically the one on the diff as well. If a prop is worn it is probably due to mileage or a hard life (launches / abusive driving) and the other suspension parts take an even beating under these circumstances / extended mileage. A suspension refresh is no that difficult to undertake yourself - you can save a lot of money if you are willing and able to do the work yourself. Lots of youtube videos on this.

Happens at lower revs when accelerating
Hi bud

Propshaft issues are wheel speed related, not RPM related. The vibration must happen at certain speeds only and at any engine RPM.

Please make sure the diagnosis is correct.

I have a low RPM vibration on my 320d currently and that's coming from the gearbox. By low RPM I mean 1.5 to 2k RPM. Probably the stage 2 tune has a lot to do with it. Too much low down torque going through.

Dumb question but have you replaced the guibos (rubber doughnuts) on the propshaft? If you have, then read up on my posts concerning the vibrations i had on my F30 320d and how i solved 99,9% of the vibration. It may be your problem too.

Same issue and solution I had on E85.
