So in preparation for the crank pulley/harmonic balancer replacement on my 2.0d E83 X3, I started off getting all the tools and parts.
eg. torque wrench, belt, pulley, bolts etc.
The one thing I couldn't get locally was the tool that "locks" the crank to torque the bolts. I did not want to attempt the change without this tool as I could not find the place to lock the crank via the gearbox/flywheel and there was no way I would be able to torque the new bolts correctly without locking the crank. Space is limited as it is, and I was going to do this alone.
So I had a look at pics of the BMW Workshop Tool (phoned them they don't sell these) and some copies of it on the net. The only option was to import one, but didn't want to wait so long.
Had one made up with help from my brother's engineering shop and it worked perfectly on the X3 N47. Machined and laser cut steel.
Now just to do the 320d which is the N47S.
Is there any interest in this for other DIY'ers?
I can maybe check for a price to get more made up.
