My Z4

So I went and pickup my Z4 almost a week ago.
Loving the car.

But some idiot decided to reverse into my car in the parking lot this Sunday. So pics will have to wait untill that is done.

The car is a 2004 z4 2.5L. with navigation and all the goodies

Things to do: In no specific order

Change gearnob to M 5 speed knob. Mine is a little worn.

Phone support.
DONE.
Eventually after hours of searching how to pair, i found out how.
All happy, i go and try pair my phone....to find out that....the passkey is nowhere to be found!
Go to bmw, they try read it off, no can do.
I read somewhere its on the actual module.....saturday afternoon comes, and i decided to diy.

After an hour, got to it....

Works great. Very nicely integrated.


AV Port. On the navigation screen, it show tv. I can go on and watch e tv, sabc and others as I browse tru the channels. However i do see one of the channels labeled as "AV1" i believe (or something of the like)
Where is this AV port?

AUX Cable. I hear its possible to add an aux port. How? Any idea?

Camera warning for OEM Gps. (DONE)
It warns me of cameras as i drive
Also had a M "boot up" screen instead of the usual =====bmw====== boring screen.

Fancy PDC system....those that are a little indecisive about their purpose. or lazer detectors....Any sugestions, ideas?

Blackout kidneys
Sterling Grey Car. Think its a good idea?

Vallet wash (with e46_325i, thanks bud)
Once I am done with the tracker swap from my old car and bumper repairs and bmw major service.


BMW Service.
One of the reasons I picked this specific Z, is that it still has motorplan with BMW untill mid may.
GOnna send it for a HUGE good bye service :thumb:
If your are clued up with what should be done, please post a list of "problems" i should bring up aswell as the parts. Car has 66 000 on the clock, 2004.


Xenon KIT.
I happen to have projector headlights with standard halagens.
Any idea of what kit to use to convert them to Xenons?
Please give me insights on the process and what KIT would you sugest.
I got advised not to use 55w and only the 35w as they get very hot. IDeas?


LED
Would like to maybe replace interior lights with white LED lights. What you guys think?
Also number plate lights with white LED.
Any sugestions on what kit must i go for and possible problems?

CUPHOLDERS
ARE NOW FITTED! Well the driver side....R550 each

Any other ideas or sugestions would be much apreciatted.

ok Blutooth :- do you have a code somewhere in the book - it will be on a card saying blue tooth passkey, or you can check out on the nav system, Im assuming it has the iDrive - u can search to do the pairing there - it will say no blue tooth if its not avail. :wave: most of the time the cradle and blue tooth seem to go together in these cars. they steering control will work with BT also.

Cup holders - might be sticky.....they are flimsy either side of the vent (horiziontal) push hard and they should pop out unless they have been glued in.

Aux ports...check under dash just above ashtray, otherwise there are install options other owners have done, will find for u.

Not sure if its iDrive. Got told its a mk4 sat nav. It has the flip up dash. with the controls on the radio it self. one selector and other volume if you catch what i mean.
I got no such passkey card.
Also have not seen bluetooth anywhere.
However i do have a mic (oem) just behind the steering wheel, and i do have :telephone: on the nav screen.
ALso have a telephone adapater thingie in the center console (that opens up from in between the seats) the specific one that is in the is for some sort of sony ericson.

I wonder if there is a :universal: phone adapater that would go in there and handle the bluetooth com?

Aux, cant see anything hey.

AV not so sure about watching and drving, but maybe for those boring times when waiting in the car for something

after 3 hours of research I actually came to realize that i am one of the lucky few wit ha z4 2004 that HAS bluetooth support.

Managed to get it into paring mode.
Now the passkey....
Apprently its in the control unit on a sticker under the lining....wish me luck!

funny story...read it can be read from the TLU (i think?)@ a dealership.....went there....they scan the car....TLU unit not installed. lol. they sit in the car,bluetooth is there.....they can make heads and tales. lol when car gets in for a service they prob will replace.....

So i had enough of bmw service, they couldnt get me the passkey, so i decided to do some research.

Found out that the paring key is also on a sticker on the actuall ELF unit.

Some more reearch i discovered that the unit is behind the passanger seat, under the boot lining.

Get the toolbox out....

Lift the lining, now i can see the unit.
Its held by a bracket onto the metal between the pass compartment and boot.
My luck, the sticker happen to be on the oposite side, the one facing the metal wall.

Remove the bracket, and there you go. Got the passkey.
that 4 digit number gave me hell to get! multiple trips to bmw dealer and eventually hour of DIY afternoon work.

So i try pair my device and it.......works!
Loving the phone integration with nav screen!

SO today i ordered and oickup the right side cup holder for my z4.
R550!!!!!
+ R0.60 for the screw.

Damn expensive cup holder.

went to pick it up, removed the balank cover, installed it. just to find out that they also dont give u the front faceplate for it.

Phoned them, its another part, R125.00
No stock, 7 siting on order for over a year.

Decided to diy.
Got the blanking plate, moded the back of to fit, put it own.

Looks perfect. like the original plate. just doesnt have the cup holder symbol on it, it rather plain. looks awesome.

ALso did my gear knob.
got a m 5 speed from some guy on gum tree, was the same heigh as original, which i find a little to long.
Trimmed the bottom of it by an inch, extended the inside hole by an inch and there you go, much nice feel and shorter trow

hope so too. the bitch who reversed into me delayed everything for almost two weeks.
Cant do bumper repair untill got tracker installed (which is in my old car that the fucking dealership sold already and didnt remove it yet), dont trust anyone to keep my car overnight, gonna be watching that tracer online like a hawk!

Dont know how long @ bmw for service. What you guys think?
clutch replacements, shocks replacement, arm bushes replacement, CID screen replacement, gearbox oil or gearbox replacement (a little notchy),wipers replacement, warped discs replacement, worn pads replacement, steering wheel pump replacement (making funky noises when turning almost all the way to either side, like a clunk. had it on my old 1 series they replaced steering wheel pump), maybe fron suspension replacement (clunk sometime when over a non smooth bump).

Hey, she looks very nice!! Definitely some more pics once the repairs have been done - doesn't look too bad in the pics, annoying, but mostly cosmetic and should be easy enough to fix.

Awesome car damn I love the Z4's:thumbsup:

My only suggestion is to source the facelift style taillight with those LED stripes they look awesome as well as the headlights, think they have 4 projectors if I'm not mistaken

Finally Some progres

Tracker is finally fitted, that means sshe is going to panel beaters tomorrow morning. SHould be there for two days..g.etting full front bumper respray, nubmer plate holder holes filled and temoved, kidneys mat black.

Also have just build nad fitted my own aux cable (bmw wanted R700+ for the aux cable).
Working well, here are some pics of the cable.

While i was watching them fit my tracker, i sources the little clips that go on the harness behind it, making it easier to install the cable, installed it at their shop while they did the tracker...
cable cost me +- R25 instead of the R700+ and waiting for parts from germany.
