Gizmo bought a diesel...

The amount of people that are trading in their petrol models for diesel models is steadily increasing, we have way better quality diesel now compared to 10years ago too. Its time I get with the times and expand my horizons and move with where the market is going so as of 2016 I will be working on diesel models. One of the reasons for buying the diesel X3 is so I can get my feet wet on diesel technology as I prefer to have my own guinea pig as opposed to using a customer's car as one. Being a self-taught mechanic, that's how I started out in this game and it works for me.

I have removed the standard steering wheel and transferred the E46 M3 SMG steering wheel I had retrofitted to the black X3 now onto the white X3. All plug and play fortunately with my custom retrofit harness. Now the diesel has working flappy paddles without throwing lights or errors.:rollsmile:

Ignition Auto had a new battery and also the transfer case sorted out when the car was traded in so those are 2 less items to worry about.:=):

For now, the mod list involves 18 inch wheels from the black X3, towbar from black X3, electric sportpack seats from the black X3 and E46 bi-xenon projector retrofit.

On the maintenance side, full service, transfer brand new brakes from black X3, brake fluid flush, EGR and intercooler clean, diff oil change and any other items I find along the way.

Current consumption level is 8.0lt/100km and none of that is highway driving.:clapper:

I like the look of the clear 3rd brake light on the black X3 and thought it would be better suited to the white X3 so I swapped it over.




Also the brake discs on the white X3 had a slight ridge and cheap pads (trucktec) so I swapped the new OEM discs and Textar pads over from the black X3 as I only replaced them a few months back. At the same time I adjusted the handbrake and did a brake fluid flush.

Swapped out the 17"s with their cheap Chinese tyres for the black X3's 18"s with nearly new Bridgestones.














Lastly, I picked up the new car papers, disc and plates from Ignition Auto, there had been some backlog at the licence office due to the strike. Will fit the new plates tomorrow.:=):

Thanks for the comments guys, I drove it on the highway for the first time today and the torque is bloody amazing! No need for downshift or use more than 50% throttle to dispatch those right lane hogs that move over for no-one. The diesel makes for fast and effortless left-lane overtaking, Im kicking myself here for not going with diesel power sooner, it suits my style of driving better than petrol powered cars...:fencelook:
