Lol, no, yours is safe, for now...:fencelook: Spares will be coming from a German built E46, not from your Japanese Spec import.

Just a quick little bump, the scrapyard I bought the car and engine bits from finally got a e39 528i so I paid the difference and got a complete M52B28. So I will dump this stock 2.8lt into her and then put it up on the market.

After pulling off the tappet cover I decided to take the motor back. Loose cam cap nuts, stripped threads all over the motor and grey silicon sealant all over the show, really poorly looked after! The scrapyard is willing to give me the 323i motor they just got in along with the bits to convert it to 2.8lt or 3.0lt. So looks like frankenstein 3.0lt will go ahead after all.

M52b28 exchanged for M52b25, 2.8 had 258 000km and 2.5 has 251 000km. This 2.5 is clean! Looks like its never been pulled apart, yay! Now I just need to swap the internals for stroker parts.

How much power do you rate this frankstein will have over and above a m52b28?

will the car still be for sale after?

I have an M52B28 crank if you don't want/find a M54B30.

Work has been a little quiet lately which has given me opportunity to tear down two 2.5lt motors and both will be receiving 3.0lt stroker conversions, the first to be stripped down was the original M54B25 from the X3, will post pics of that one in the X3 thread. This M52B25 was the second tear down and once complete will go into the 328i. There is a ridge on the sleeves so honing/boring of the block is needed and 1st oversize 84mm pistons will be used (84.5mm bore) with 135mm rods and 89.6mm stroke giving us 3014cc total displacement, still figuring out which pistons to use for what compression ratio.

I just love these containers from West Pack! B30 crank can be seen too.

Working out compression ratios of various different 84mm pistons, using a snapped M54B30 crank for reference.

Can you not go crazy and bore it out to 86mm and then use Superboss pistons for even more displacement?

You would have to check the gudgeon pin height though.

Or cant these blocks accept such big bores?

I love how you're testing clearance with a piston that has a valve embedded in it. :)

I agree....stop messing around and just make it a 3.4.

That would need like a 90mm bore!

There is a reason Im not going mad with the bore is because it takes life out the block and removes the later option of turbocharging as you will run into gasket issues with such little meat between cylinders...

I can punch it out to 3,2lt if I really wanted to.

Do high comp please, with some nice cams, at least 288 duration, M3 itb's from the 3.2.
Thanks

Will then buy this car later in the year
It needs coastal air
