My M3 SMG

Hi Guys

Finally figured out how to post pics. Thought I would share my baby with you. She's a 2002 E46 M3 SMG. Bought her last year and it's my first ///M. Not the cheapest car to maintain out of warranty, but amazing in every aspect none the less. I think it's quite a neat example. Enjoy!!

thanks for the comments guy:thumbsup:. Had the fucking wing mirrors stolen out of the housing as well as the front left indicator. The mechanism has been snapped inside the housing. Its at donford now! Probably going to cost a fortune. Last thing i needed as I also need a replacement gearbox!!

Are there any meets this weekend in C.T, I'm down this weekend for a small break from work and would like to get involved in the scene a little more?

With the Argus happening this weekend, its going to be pretty hectic traffic wise.

Will your insurance not cover the mirrors? and why on earth do you need a new gearbox? normally its the part on the outside with all the servos etc that fails on the SMG.

Have you taken your car to a indy shop like ZEEMAX for a second opinion?

That's a fine car! Sorry about the vandalism, but jealousy gets the better of some people... Hope she's on the road pretty soon!

Thanks for all of the comments again!! The car is ready for collection so will be on the road this weekend!!

The reason for not claiming on insurance is that I'm under 23 and claiming now will increase my premiums which are already choking me.

@ freerider. I did the software upgrade which seemed to help things substantially but the SMG light still comes on occasionally. This usually happens when shifting under hard acceleration. BMW says its not the actuator pump or the relay, they say the gearbox is worn thats why it has problems selecting a gear. They probably are talking shit. Is Zeemax good? Would like to go and see them on Saturday if possible. Gizmo says I'm looking at between R7000 - R9000 for a replacement gearbox if it needs replacement. Car has R140k on the clock but clutch was replaced last year June.

Anyone heard of gearbox failing? (Not actuator pump etc but actual gearbox?)

Appreciate the help.

Cheers

Hey bud, awesome cab there.
Have you thought of doing any after-market warranties?

They are not nearly as good as Motorplan but they cover some sort of % to your expense.
It would help with these cars esp the SMG gearbox.

Yeah ZEEMAX are brilliant, they also wont stuff you around and replace parts that dont need to be replaced.

@ HELLAS... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH, I agree with.

@Arym, I have heard very negative things about aftermarket warranties. Are there any good providers?

@ Freerider. Cheked the Zeemax website, they look really professional and have a lot of experience. Definatley gonna go and check them out.

Thanks for all the feedback gents. Will give you feedback! Hopefully start with a few cosmetic mods soon.

Got a K&N Filter flat filter, and the car is chipped for starters.

cheers

I doubt it is the gearbox (as a previous SMG owner myself), but if it is, then there is absolutely no reason why you can't get it for cheaper than the R7000 they mentioned, becuase the gearbox itself is a normal 6 speed manual box. Read it up. Try scrapyards first. Alot of people have smashed their M3's. :)

The only expensive parts are the pump, solenoids and actuators.

Even the clutch is a normal manual box clutch (although it might differ on the M3)
