Ya the stuff with the rim is just a pain the ass. It's not critical to find a wide, it's just coupled with having to buy all new tires, an offset camber bolt, and scratching the mag. Now to sort out the balljoint/control arms.

Anyone want a narrow Contour? :)

Spent the whole of Saturday replacing my front control arms and bushings. It wouldn't have taken so long if I didn't get kicked out of my apartment complex for hammering out my inner ball joints. :) I then had to put the car back together, with old parts, to drive somewhere else to do the work.

Here's a nice, failed ball-joint on the driver's side. This thing was completely loose, no resistance whatsover:

Here it is next to the new Meyle HD arm from Incomex:

This is the passenger side. The inner and outer ball joint boots were broken but the balljoints were still functional. I fitted Treehouse Racing "eyeball arms" which include the arm and bushing in one go, with the M3 offset giving you more caster.

And here it is fitted! Yes my sway-bar drop-links are next on the list to be replaced.

I did need a wheel alignment afterwards, which I did this morning, steering wheel was quite a bit off to the left to go straight, I think this car's left control arm was damaged. It's tough for me to give the Treehouse arms a review since my balljoints were all on their way out, but the front feels amazing now, much tighter and more responsive.

Great progress! Front suspension makes a huge difference on the feel. Glad to someone taking care of an E36:rollsmile:

Took the car to Powerflow today, as every time I let off the throttle there was popping/rattling coming from under the car and fuel smell. They welded up a few holes in the stock manifold, and resealed the manifold to the exhaust. The car was decatted by PO, so there's still some trailing throttle noise, but the car is now a lot quieter and no obnoxious fumes! :) I was hearing a ticking, almost injector-like noise coming from behind the dash when putting my foot down, now it's dead quiet. Actually too quiet.

I'm interested to see if this improves my fuel economy at all, as the air leak was upstream of the O2 sensor and would pull fresh air in.

Finally managed to fit these last night, here's the before and after on the fronts! Going to give the new pads a week or two to bed-in before I make any judgements. The front calipers are so close to these Contours that it's lightly scraping the wheel balancing weights. :)

They're E46 330i up front, and standard E46 rears with ventilated discs. At the same time I got some SS brake lines, Hawk HPS 5.0 pads, and new brake fluid. Here were the calipers when they were sandblasted before powder-coating.
