caddy can you explain the circumstances that led up to the initial fail

:fencelook:

WATER PUMP FAILURE has no signs/telltales if its going to fail.

If just bascially comes up with the warning light , car goes into limp and thats it , you left on the side of the road.

Thats one thing i will openly admit is where BMW stuffed up IMO , there is no water temp indication or oil temp indications on the lower models of the E90 , on the 335 for example there is a oil temp indication but no water temps.

All i can suggest is to make sure one has roadside assitance or bmw on call.

have they atleast corrected that on the F30?

I was in Magalies for a work conference. We arrived there on Monday morning and my car didn't move since then.

Tuesday evening, loaded my stuff and got on the road. After about 20 km, red temperature warning light, car cuts power.

I pulled over, turn the car off and I hear the fan running. I wait for it to stop. I thought maybe I drove too hard too soon maybe or something...

Anyway, I start it up again and drive a few km then yellow temperature warning. I slowed down, thought maybe I could "limp" home, but shortly after that, red warning light.

So I make a U turn and go back to the garage. I opened the bonnet and I could hear water boiling.

Then I called roadside assist.

thanks caddy and shawn

if you hear water boiling meaning that it its either

1 Waterpump or
2 thermostat not opening :fencelook::fencelook:

in other words the water is not circulating

BMW Thermostat is designed to stay open when they fail as far as i am aware

Technically, the thermostat can't close when hot unless faulty. This is the nature of its design.

eactely but remember that guy that asked for hte coolent mixture and using normal tap water causing rust - that will cause failure with the thermostat as well
