My E90 325i

Looking very good, especially with that mileage! I would change oil more frequently that the normal service schedule - sludge is a killer in general, but these engines rely on oil pressure, so fresh oil every 10k km or at least once a year is ideal. Also things like the Vanos solenoids should be cleaned every now and again - they tend to get all gunked up and cause performance issues or errors etc.

Thanks for the tips!

So I just finished driving up from Cape Town to Witsand (~3 hours) and I'm quite happy with the consumption considering I was stuck behind quite a good few number of trucks.

So now that my engine issues are resolved, I'm looking at modding the car.

I've never been one to modify my car, but my previous car was a '96 Golf GS so I guess that's understandable.

I'm looking at mainly cosmetic mods only as I don't do track racing, and I have enough speeding fines on the road as is.

Mod list

- Volk TE37 19s
- M3 replica kit
- Decat and software to compensate
- New exhaust system (I want to really bring out that inline 6 sound)
- ~35% window tint
- Black out grilles and window trim
- CSL style boot lip
- Xenon angle eyes with blacked out lights
- CF front lip
- CF rear diffuser

That's the plan at least. Considering leaving the car black and throwing in some red as accents. Possibly getting the rims in a candy red.

Do you guys know where I could get the Volk rims and the M3 kit for an E90 pre-LCI?

Hey guys,

So I took my car back in to the mechanic as the shuddering kept happening when my vanos would kick in but only around 5000+ rpm.

Mechanic noticed sludge build-up and cleaned it out but stated that the cats were causing excessive back-pressure and had them removed. The car is definitely more responsive (I have the A/T model) and I can feel the difference, but the shuddering is still there :thumbdo: I already broke the bank this month so I might have to wait it out until the end of Feb to take it back in.

Also, my left xenon bulb is dying as it's gone pink. I was quoted R9 500 for a replacement bulb and ballast which is definitely not happening. Someone recommended halogen bulbs instead. What would be a suitable replacement for my xenons that still gives me the same effect, brightness and visibility?

Cheers,

Have you switched the bulb from the working light to the other light to determine if it's the ballast or ghetto bulb?

Na I just had the mechanic attempt to sort out my engine trouble. He told me bulbs go for ~R3 500 and ballasts for ~R6 000.

Yes that's dealer prices. First thing to do is find out if it's the bulb or ballast. Tell ric to stop being lazy and swap your bulb around to see if it's the ballast or the bulb.

I personally would not buy a philips hid or osram bulb locally as 90% of them are fakes made in China. I bought a set of osram 5000k CBIs for 200$ and you have guys here selling the "same bulb" for R700 a bulb. It's a big problem on international forums.

If it's your ballast you can either get a second hand one or get a aftermarket one off ebay. The ones I bought are made in the usa and they say they are better than the oem ones. I paid 150$ for 2 they were selling at 90$ for 1.

I don't even know how you knew it was Ric how told me that. Does he have a reputation for being THAT lazy :roflol:

I'll check in with him when I take the car back. Would halogens not be a cheaper yet still effective alternative?

I just know you take your car to Brilliant mechanical and it must of been him who told you.

Yes halogens work just fine and would be cheaper to run at the end of the day.

He's not lazy, he woks damn hard. Was just joking

Well I'll have Ric take a look and then look for second hand or after market replacement parts. And yeah he's a great mechanic. I know you were joking :)

Thanks for the info DF :ty:
