What's the mileage at present?
Philip Foglar said:Looking very good, especially with that mileage! I would change oil more frequently that the normal service schedule - sludge is a killer in general, but these engines rely on oil pressure, so fresh oil every 10k km or at least once a year is ideal. Also things like the Vanos solenoids should be cleaned every now and again - they tend to get all gunked up and cause performance issues or errors etc.

Na I just had the mechanic attempt to sort out my engine trouble. He told me bulbs go for ~R3 500 and ballasts for ~R6 000.

DieselFan said:Yes that's dealer prices. First thing to do is find out if it's the bulb or ballast. Tell ric to stop being lazy and swap your bulb around to see if it's the ballast or the bulb.
I personally would not buy a philips hid or osram bulb locally as 90% of them are fakes made in China. I bought a set of osram 5000k CBIs for 200$ and you have guys here selling the "same bulb" for R700 a bulb. It's a big problem on international forums.
If it's your ballast you can either get a second hand one or get a aftermarket one off ebay. The ones I bought are made in the usa and they say they are better than the oem ones. I paid 150$ for 2 they were selling at 90$ for 1.

I don't even know how you knew it was Ric how told me that. Does he have a reputation for being THAT lazy :roflol:
I'll check in with him when I take the car back. Would halogens not be a cheaper yet still effective alternative?
DieselFan said:I just know you take your car to Brilliant mechanical and it must of been him who told you.
Yes halogens work just fine and would be cheaper to run at the end of the day.
He's not lazy, he woks damn hard. Was just joking
