Hi All
So I thought it best before I get banned to talk about (and post some pics of) my BMW E39 M5. Before I start, some background:
I was born and raised in PE, one of 4 brothers, 2nd youngest, and we all had varying interests in cars. My dad had an E12 518i, and I think that was where my passion started. I was off course too young at the time to drive this car, but the BMW bug had bit. I was an avid fan of Nelson Piquet and Brabham BMW in F1, but srangely enough I never owned a BMW until I was in my early thirties - I did come very close to buying a white 325iS in my twenties, but hesitated and the car was purchased by someone else. So my car history was Opel 1.6 GSI (My eldest brother's car before me), then Golf 4 Gti (much better than the Opel), all the time looking for a good 325iS. Then in 2003/2004, I bought my first BMW, a stunning E46 M3 - what an awesome machine (I can't believe I have no photos of this car), gunmetal grey with a dark red leather interior. This car was loads of fun, but very hard and unforgiving, and did not make a good family vehicle. I then sold it (what an idiot:smashScreen

would buy it back now if I could - that screaming V6 - what an engine! Then had various family sedans/SUV's - all the time looking out for what I consider to be the most elegant BMW of all time - the E39 M5.
By 2013 I had nearly given up, and almost settled on a pristine silver e38 740i Motorsport (pukka - I checked the Vin) but decided against it (still not sure about that decision - love the e38 shape, and Motorsport very rare :YesNo

but finally found the car I had been looking for in Pretoria in Feb 2014. 2002 Carbon Black BMW M5 with Caramel Interior. Pics of the car as advertised then:
My mission with the car - well this car is not my daily driver, it is a weekend and hobby car, so I trying to fix all the niggly little things and refresh the car while keeping it it stock (or mostly stoclk...). My plans for the car:
Cosmetics
Respray bonnet and front bumper (bad road rash)
Re-dye front seats (done)
Update Halo lights to LED's - done but shitty EBAY lights need to be replaced
replace plastic adjusters on Xenon's
replace Xenon bulbs
fix twisted seat problem - drivers side done
fix headrest problem
Mechanical
Change oil, oil fliter ,air filters, cabin filters and fuel filter - done
Change power steering fluid
Change gearbox and differential oil - diff currently leaking so needs to be serviced
Exhausts - muffler delete - still not sure - limited options in PE
Change gearknob to F10 ZHP and fit SS kit
Other
Fit Aux in into stereo
Upgrade from Mk3 navigation to Mk4 (unit on the way)
Fit OEM Bluetooth unit
Finalise stereo options
Some pics as at tonight - note car is not clean - I washed it on Sunday but took it for a drive afterwards - it was such a beautiful day!
Here you can see the road rash that I need to fix
some of my goodies still to be fitted, and spares to be sold
bluetooth telephone replacement armrest unit - already fitted
bluetooth ULF unit (which I may have blown when incorrectly fitted initially)
Thinggy I needed for bluetooth which I did not have the first time I fitted
Old Siemens telephone module and telephone
Garage door opener - non US cars not pre-wired

so will have to find another way to connect, also frequency not compatible apparently!!
Aux- in cable , and improved microphone for bluetooth
My modifications done to BM54 stereo module - rca pre-outs
Still need to decide what to do for stereo upgrade, but stock head unit will remain
Anyways, that enough for one post - I love the car, the ride - incredibly comfortable vs my E46 and many other modern sport sedans - the v8 is incredibly smooth, massive torque, and pulls like a train when you put you foot down!
I promise to take some better pics when the car goes in for its mini valet next week. Thanks and Cheers
