Personally I dont think you should cut the springs, not a very good idea, if you dont mind me saying so. Rather a drop kit, or at worst compressed springs.

ok so im throwing in the towel again:cry:

turns out the rust on this baby is more than I bargained for. Its my own fault - i left the car standing for 3 years:fencelook:

I did some thinking with estimates of what i need vs what they're selling for.

I will need to replace all the panels - 4 doors, bonnet, bootlid, fenders, bumpers, stonetray, foglamps R5K+

Panel and paint work R7K

M20 + Getrag 260 + Full wiring harness - R10-R15K

325i Struts, springs - I have this

325i Exhaust, radiator and other loose bits R5k+

So easily looking at R30K plus for a car that will probably not be complete, ever.

May just sell this off and look at buying a 325i

So I had a panel beater look at the car and he confirmed that the chassis was still solid and it's fixable with the bulk of the rust on removable panels - it looks worse than what it is. Considering that the car is licensed and has papers and a fair interior, I decided to visit the local e30 breakers for some panels...

I was surprised at how scarce these parts were, the guys I knew to be e30 breakers are all e36 breakers nowadays and frustration hit...from place to place I eventually found it...Aziz's BMW spares close to Wetton Circle still has half a yard full of e30's breaking.

Gave R1200 for some decent replacement doors and fenders and started

During

The second hand doors were completely stripped so i had to swap over the windows, mechanism, locks and electronics

Hey Goe....

Good going...sort this e30...if you had one, you know what they are...sheer driving pleasure.

Regarding the removable radiator support. You have the idea, I cut mine in between the front bonnet hinge brackets and added in a removable rectangular tube in place...I would imagine you could do the same as the pic - just be sure to check where you cutting and make sure its not a major support point. Make sure to add in what you take out - as to say, replace what you removed but make it boltable.

In my case, i will plan to make a one piece removable bonnet which will have the fenders attached. I found that after removing the bar across the bonnet support point, that its more than enough room to remove motor and box etc...I got a small block v8 that pulls out and in within minutes thanks to this space saver.

Hope it helps, and keep this e30 alive...or if you ever do give up, I will give this e30 a new home.
