Ok so my car has gone nuts!!! Its a 1992 318i Convertible 5 speed Manual 150000 miles. My problem started a few weeks ago when i went out to eat one night and the car was running great, I come out 45 min later and it took like 15 min to get it to finally start... I managed to limp it the 2 miles home and cut it off. The next morning I come out and it would crank and crank but not start. after doing some research i replaced the crank sensor.....Boom problem solved it started right up like a champ. I also replaced the Cam sensor just for good measure because the pigtail coming off the sensor was really brittle. Ok ever since then it starts right up and idles but when the engine is cold it wont go over 1500 RPMs.... i can run it all the way to 5th gear so long as i dont go over 1500....as the engine temp rises to normal operating temp i can slowly take it up to 2000 then 2500 then 3000 then by the time the temp gauge hits the middle it runs PERFECT????? Oh and what i mean by it not going over a certain RPM is that when it hits that RPM it starts shaking and bucking and loses power..... Has anyone ever heard of this before? the first thing that comes to my mind is maybe the ECM???????Help Please?!?!?!?!

sounds more like parkinsons to me :fencelook:

strange issue. I have no clue what the problem could be.

bonkers MAF maybe.. My advice is to get the codes read.. much cheaper than replacing everything.

Welcome to the forum .
The best bet is to get the codes read and reset then ride a week and check the codes again .
E30 or e36 ?
Good luck .

No this isn't spam. I live in the United States.....I happened upon this forum through google and I'm just looking for help figuring out what's up with my car.

To answer above questions it is an E30 and based on the stomp test the only stored code is 1244 (cam sensor I think) but like I said the cam sensor is brand new.... Do any of you know the proper resistance values for the cam sensor? I suppose it's possible that it could be bad out of the box?

Probably the cold start valve! Not sure on the E30's though but the symptoms seem to be pointing in that direction.

It souds like the E39 M5. It also has to be warmed up before allowing you to go up in revs, but unfortunatley I also have no idea what the problem could be.

Sorry bud.

My bad, I owe you a Millers Draft :)

With regards to your problem, you mentioned replacing the cam sensor & now its giving a 1244 error (possibly cam sensor error). Did your try fitting the old cam sensor back to see if the problem persists ? it could be the new cam sensor is faulty :dunno: I'm guessing....

Somebody here should be able to help you

where are the e30 owners.

150 000 miles = 240 000 km... actually not high considering its an E30..

Help the Fella out...
