MY BMW F10 JOURNEY

Hi Guys
Continuing from my Introduction thread: https://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=93382

The first thing I decided to tackle on the vehicle was the steering wheel. I just couldn’t handle how shiny and dirty the steering looked.

I managed to get my hands on a magic sponge. I used the magic sponge with water and rubbed very lightly onto the leather of the steering. Once done, I wiped it down with a microfiber.  In my opinion it improved the steering look and feel immensely, however if your steering has any compromises, this will highlight them.

After completing the above I found that the steering was extremely dry, so I purchased a bottle of Auto Glyme Leather Balm. I found this to improve the steering wheel feel and look, once buffed and dried.

I can not emphasis this enough, if you are using the magic sponge, rub extremely lightly. The sponge can do some serious damage if used too aggressively. I personally would not make use of the magic sponge again. It should only be used when the steering is really dirty. I was willing to take the risk, as I was willing to have the steering reconditioned.

Thanks for reading. More updates to follow. Pics below.

Well done on the steering wheel. Chemical cleaning works a treat but you need to take it slow - when you think it's clean it probably still isn't so have a go at it again if it's been out in the sun after a drive too.

I know the change is minor, but your pics in the other thread and here make me want those LCI lights even more for mine LOL.

What are your thoughts vs the E90 20d vs. F10 20d - do you feel the weight?

So you really do feel the weight on the F10. You barely get any wheel spin, whereas in the e90, the rear wheels would spin for fun. However my e90 did have software so I'm not comparing apples with apples. The F10 is just refined.

To be honest, I felt very connected to the road with the e90 320d, was an excellent vehicle.

Up Next I decided to tackled the front of the vehicle. To complete the above, the bumper was removed.

Great update there, the front end is looking clean, the headlights make a huge difference when a bit clouded.

The depth and colour of the headlight relay pops also, makes it look like the inside got a coat of black paint at the same time.

Great stuff man!

Update number 3:

So after having the car for about 3 months I felt that I needed a bit more power. I decided to do the Software, as well as an installation of a downpipe

For the downpipe I went straight to ACE in Durban. I watched the entire process which took about 2.5 hours. Albeit there were times where there were 2-3 staff members working on the car at a time.  I must say I was impressed with the end result.

For the software I got in contact with Xcede Performance. Immediately after the flash I felt a huge difference. The car pulls strong and power delivery is constant through the rev range. The car has a constant strong pull.

Below are some recent shots I took of the vehicle.

Thanks for reading.

HI Guys

Haven't updated this thread in a very long time!

Car has been giving me excellent service. Absolute pleasure to drive with just the right amount of power.

During lockdown the amount of spider web marks on the paintwork was starting to get to me. I have been playing around with a number of products of the last year in the terms of my own personal detailing, as a hobby. So far I have used mostly Meguiars products, also starting to test some of the Turtle Wax stuff, the Waxedshine products also look interesting. Even picked up a DA polisher.

Extremely happy with some of the results I have gotten, however it took a lot of trail and error as a noob. Made tons of mistakes. Car is washed weekly at car wash in Durban which only uses Meguiars products and correct washing techniques. They even go as far as putting a detailer on the car.

In terms of other mods, I have floated the idea of Installing a front lip. However came to the decision that it would make the car a bit impractical, taking into consideration that the car is used to the Berg fairly often.

Will be reconditioning the rims soon and doing an oil service shortly. Also have a full professional detail on the cards

Till the next update.

Nice car, I never paid attention to F10 till last year, and so far I’m head over hills with it. Refined motoring at best!

Like the mods done so far, looks great.

Just my 2c on the lip. It looks great, and the car has good clearance for most driveways and bumps. Having that said I have had 2/3 different lips on the car. One broke, when the car was used by someone else, on a driveway. The other flew off on the n3 (pretty sure the dyno operator before that hit the lip taking the car off the rollers but not 100% sure if that is was caused it to get dislodged).

You can get the 3 piece (splitters/lip) in gloss black from Jabsport if you're keen.
