Congrats, car looks good
Love that interior

Thanks man! I didn't actually like the tan, but now its growing on me. Would still prefer the black leather...
The chocolate dash is still a bit funny, but will probably grow on me as well.

Videos....? Sounds like a plan, maybe include E39 Ian's "Balls of steel" test?
Will make one this weekend after doing some market research...need extra cash for fuel...:thinker:
Will be made from my iPod, so you will need the following to watch it:
Media Player Classic 'Lite' - this is free, just search Google
FFDshow - a plugin also download-able from Google - take the trial

Just give me some info on how to post it.

tow ? .. traded my cat and a laptop as down payment.. they said I can do the rest on lay by.. and get my car when its done. lol.
nagh, wasn't that hectic. less than a grand luckily cause I know the okes and I'm hooked up ekse .. Emraan down here at Autograph racing is a REAL HERO ! .. was there at the shop till 7pm with them, we redid my wiring under the car, the propshaft got hold of the wiring loom and tore it right out of the sensors and plugs... (it looked real bad, honestly) but at least the car starts and runs again.. it blew some big fuses in the dme comportant also .. neways, propshaft is still off, sending it to a guy tommorow morning to get fixed up, now that everything else is sorted when I get my propshaft back tommorow I am on the road again.. and I will hopefully BRIEFLY come say howsit in bloem :) ...

will let u guys know ... keep well

Haha. Ofcourse my broe! Farm road won't do, but the Lettie Fouche road also won't do...remember it requires 15seconds of flat foot on the small pedal...
I was thinking Brandfort or Jagersfontein Rd...
You will need to hold the camera for me!

I'm driving my BM in steptronic it's nogals quite nice - it's also amazing how it sounds like a manual when you shift gears like I do lol! So now I'm driving a bit.. urm.... overzealous! That's probably why when I filled up yesterday I did a calculation ... 18.9 liters/100km or 5.29km/liter... :):):):)

I found the reason why my back door was sucking so much...it is the window that won't wind up. I pressed the 'down' button and it goes down, but almost falling down but slowly and uncontrolled...
Does this meat that I have to take it to auto electrician? Why did it only fall when I pressed on the down button? and why wont it go back up?
Thanks

Polisiehond - take a look at this website, it has very comprehensive DIY info

http://www.e38.org/e39/

By the way - have you had your codes checked yet?

My consumption was also crazy a while back, rick540 sorted me out and now - what a pleasure. Went up to Touwsrivier last weekend for a wedding and returned a figure of 9.9L/100km avg speed 140-160km/h

My avg around my normal driving is 12.7L/100km including some steptronic fun....

Have not had the codes checked...need cash first.
I will check my consumption when I fill up, but I had 154km on the trip and the range meter said "400km"...I think I'm driving like a granny ;-)

cool, my ecu blew aswell. lol, got a courier company sending a plane from jhb with a new one today. :/ eish. turns out the flywheel wasn't that damaged, but the guibo was fk'ed and its threads came off, grabbed the wire harness under the car and ripped all the wires clean off.. shorted out the DME and popped some fuses... lol, neways. troubles never end do they .. they just change face.

:)

hopefully one day I will make it home, lol, staying in a guesthouse till my car is fixed. :/ sux0r badly.

eish guys, I think I got something close to 800km on a tank if its longdistance non stop... when I had my steptronic at least.

I still have photos to prove it somewhere on my drive !! I will post them soon..

Is there not an enthusiast in Bloem with a OBC 2 reader? Good News - rick540 has a second hand one for sale with connectors and software for less than a grand, all you need is a laptop or computer you can position close to the car (1m-1.2m max) :pimp: All the Bloem guys club together and buy it and check your codes regularly!

Private mech should charge no more than R200/250 or free if talk nicely. Dealerships charge around 1 hours labour R600 + vat, but once again talk nicely and maybe they will do it for nothing as it only takes a few minutes.

Checking the codes will tell you exactly if there is anything wrong with the engine, computer, drivetrain, interior, all sensors, etc, etc, etc Very helpful info indeed!! :excited:

So, its not as easy to do a manual conversion as once thought (at least on an e39...).

But why did you not replace the guibo while you were busy with the conversion? Surely you inspected the condition? It is a known undocumented service item, especially on higher torque BMWs...

I'll be coming through to bloem on the next long weekend. alternatively, PM me and I'll give you the info on how to put together your own diagnostics system for less than R200 (given that you already have a laptop and not inclusive of 1-2gb required internet bandwidth. Terms & Conditions apply :) )

Sorry to hear about the mishap clutchy, and I know exactly what it looks like. The stealership started my engine with the trans off and the wires hanging down (They wanted to check oil pressure... what a Fscking stupid way to do it they must have been manually holding the CPS in place) and the flywheel promptly ate everything after catching it. They "tried" to repair it, but took me a few days of carefull soldering and using shrink sleeving to get it right. They even mixed up LHS and RHS O2 sensors.

Hope you get it all sorted soon, wish U the best.
