My 540 6 Speed

Hi all, just joined the forum. I am just in the process of sorting out some business as I will be moving over to SA in the near future to work in rustenburg at a Tuning development and I am thinking about bringing my car with.. Its going to cost you a pretty penny to get here, both shipping but more customs. SA is very strict about importing of vehicles to protect the local OEM industry, so while its not impossible, its just going to be expensive.

THe car however, as special as a E39 540/6 is, has very little value, and I would guess you would pay for a MINT 540/6.... call it... erm.. 100k.

To give you an idea, a clean E39 M5 is going for 180k, a not so clean one, although still respectable is here from about 120.

Still a lot more than He would get for it here-I am guessing near Portsmouth-A friend bought a mint E39 M5 for less than £10000 here and thats generally what they go for....R180000 is still £16255.00-so a lot more money,although yes import duties will make any profit soon disappear

So far I know customs only nail you really hard if you buy oversea to import. There is some rule that if the car is on your name fo longer than x months you pay no or very little customs. They see it as you bring in your belong and not buy oversea to bypass local market. something like that. might have changed dont know.

Its a company called Dynoworx, I think its a very new company based in Rustenburg. As far as my car is concerned i believe I am allowed to bring the car on something called a personal import as part of my personal belongings and are only allowed to bring one unit? I have owned the car for 8 years now and to be honest I really dont want to sell it. I have remapped it myself and it produces 315 bhp that is running it on 99 octane fuel. i know the fuel there is not so good. maybe I must take a trip to Rand airport and stock up with some avgas if they sell it? Just a thought. Here are some more pics.

The Land Rover is one I built for my mate. took 12 months to build from start to finnish. not my cup of tea but he paid the bills!

The last photo was taken when I just returned to my home town after a run back from North Wales where it embarrassed a Porsche Boxster s. his was restricted to 155mph and mine isn't!! Enough Said!!

Question! are there many E39 540 6 Speed manuals in SA? I keep looking at adverts for cars for sale there and they seem to be all autos?

I am not to sure you there are that many 6-speed 540's here in SA (but I have never really looked for one).

The best pump gas you will get in SA is 95 at altitude ad 97 at the coast (I think)

Yes there are 6 Speed 540i's, but scarce as hell as the guys that have them hold on to them.

@Sankekur I was very disappointed last December, as I found out that our Government has decided that 95 will be the highest octane we will need thus no more 97.
