I have the same car (2003 non m/sport) and slightly more km's (225k) and was wondering about chipping it for a long time now. What kind of driver are you? What i am trying to determine is if you are gentle with the car most of the time and only use the extra power for emergencies, will the car last as long as a car without the modifications?
The gearbox is a big worry. Must say that the gearbox on my car has not given a days worry. It is extremely smooth (if a jerky gearchange is anything to judge a failing gearbox) and i hope to get a lot more mileage out of it before it breaks!
Mods on my car: decat, deflap en egr vacuum plugged. Am very happy with the power presently but am always on the lookout for ways to increase the torque!

For quite a while after selling my M3 this became the performance car in my garage so I used to drive it quite hard. That's why I chipped it.
Since I bought the Lumina, I've started driving the Beemer in a more relaxed manner and don't really drive her so hard anymore - she's 9 years old with 170K on the clock so I give the car some respect now. Car still pulls hard if I need it to though and the upgrade has proved very reliable in the 70000k's or so that it's been modified. Can easily outrun some of the smaller hot hatches (Polo GTI etc) and can frighten some of the bigger ones if I catch them sleeping. The improvement in fuel consumption was also a win. Gearbox is as smooth today as when I bought it.

The only complaint I have with the chip is that RGM use the unichip and it needs to be remapped every year to compensate for engine wear (or so they tell me). Cost to remap is like 2 grand every time which is a complete rip off. I have now decided not to remap every year and am taking the car back to the agents for servicing.

So far, not a single complaint with the car - maybe I just got lucky?

No drop in car's performance so I think they are taking the piss.

I have heard of a couple of instances where people "upgraded" to an E60, only to start the search for an E39 again in a month or two... I'm guessing that in the case of the F10, the increase in power might on its own swing the vote, though.

Am not normally one for putting stickers on my cars but this one actually looks quite nice if you see it in the flesh.

Drove the E60 530D - very nice but power wise was much the same as the E39 and I prefer the E39 shape. F10 530D is very strong but too expensive

Have just had them refurbed since that picture. Will post updated picture soon. Basically just had the lips polished and rims resprayed in the new BMW silver. They look awesome.
