Nice, love to See DIY work work being carried out by members.

I’m super hands-on. Since selling my El’Camino my hands sat idle and I’m not in the mood to rebuild the wiring harness on the Suzuki yet.

So far it’s been a mission to sort out rattles and undoing the grime from 5 years of car wash places etc.

The paint is in pretty good condition with only a few chips to fix. No really big scratches. Will do the touchup as soon as I can lay my hands on one of these.

Fluid writer pen that is also used for paint touchups. You have a lot more control compared to brushes etc.

I imagine it would be great for filling deep scratches with clear too.

Looking forward to seeing that tool in action!

Ordered it off of Amazon together with 3000 to 7000 sanding paper. Hopefully have it by the 21st.

Ok. Update time.

Started with a bath.

Rinse, foam, scrub, rinse, soap, rinse, dry routine.
I use the standard 2 bucket & 2 wash mitt method. Buckets have grit guards.

Wheels are soaked in iron remover before coating the car in foam.

With the wash mitt I only wipe gently in a single direction, side to side or up and down. Never in circles.

I dry with 2 towels. Each side of the car has its own.
From the roof down to the bumpers.

By laying out the dry towel on the roof it soak enough water to prime it. A single wipe in one direction is enough to dry the paint.

Gently pull the towel towards you and fold twice. Keep folding over after each wipe to get a dry square.

Once a section is dry I lay it out on the next and repeat the process.

So I mentioned the rubber surfaces going bone dry and feeling like plastic.

Started sorting this out.

Taped so I don’t mess on the freshly washed paint. In this photo you can see a caked on mess between the roof and deck lid rubbers. It’s gross.

Generous blob of Shield SP9 heavy duty rubber & vinyl cleaner. Followed by a ton of scrubbing with a microfiber cloth.

Cleaned up nicely and coated with 303 Aerospace protectant.

Next but was less intense to clean. The rubber between the roof and the windscreen.

Ran out of time with the rest of the rubber but I did top up the wax coat with some spray wax. Need to find time to strip the coat, get the DA on there and fix the paint swirls and scratches. Just waiting for my sandpaper and paint pen to arrive.

Little bit of extra work this morning.

Tailpieces looked a little contaminated so a quick clean and light rub down with NXT Metal Polish.

Not 100% yet but all in good time.

Next up some leather and interior love.

I don’t eat in my car but day-to-day oils and dirt from your hands build up on the soft leather steering wheel. Took a bit of rubbing with a microfiber to clean up and then treated with a coat of Meguires Gold Class Leather Care.

I despise that hard shiny leather look a wheel gets over time so extra care is given to prevent that.

Ran through all the books and crannies with a soft detailing brush to clean out dust and whatever else accumulated over time.

All plastic and vinyl surfaces cleaned and treated with Meguires Interior Cleaner / Detailer.

All leather surfaces treated with the Gold Class leather care.
